I got a black friend/ gay brother/ mother, sister. I can't possibly be! It's a really stupid argument and has rightly been mocked worldwide for a long time.
I think Alex got caught up in a shitstorm and didn't handle it well at all. Perez was a total dick for the way he handled it too - played it to the max and I can see why people concluded he 'got Alex booted out'. Funnily enough, though, Michelle The Voice was completely silent. Unless I missed something? Maybe she stepped up and sorted out this case of (mis)interpreted homophobia? If she did, she was damned quiet about it.

Seriously, the more I think about it the more I want to question that woman about her so-called fight. If there was ONE instance in the House where she should have been forefront - where was she?? Nowhere. That's where.”

She said 'no no no' when Alex later made the 'faggot-ass face' comment. Otherwise she did nothing. And given how she jumped on the 'Alex was driven out by Perez' narrative that Hopkin's was pushing I consider her complicit in the brushing under the carpet that has happened since. There's no way a self-appointed Voice for the LGBT community could have been unaware of the vibes Alex was putting out in such a small space. She chose to ignore it because it suited her purposes, just like everyone else seems to have.

And yes, the little speech about gay cousins looked painfully staged to me, performed just before he did his vanishing act. Conveniently Michelle, recognised the world over as The One True Voice of All Of The Gays (and Hopkins) sat at his feet nodding and murmuring contemplative agreement, as if they're listening to a wise old warrior just back from a war who's seen things you wouldn't believe rather than an ageing R n B singer known for a few hit records and a cocaine problem.

Well, as I'm away to my bed I find myself wondering why rhumbathingy has gone so eerily quiet.

Could it be that he/she actually watched the video I posted? Is such a thing possible? If so we truly are living in a wondrous utopia.

Resilience - that's the word I was looking for! So true, whatever issues he's dealt with, he's somehow learnt strategies to let all this nasty stuff, wash over him. That interview changed my perceptions of the man. Love this post Scarlet!

I was just logging on here this morning to make the same point about Perez and Ken ... he seemed to be the only one right at the start to spend time chatting to Ken (who seemed quite solitary on that first night) and offering to share his bed as Ken hadn't joined in with the usual mad scramble for beds when the bedroom door was unlocked.

A silly observation, but I do smile every time I see the scene where he's calling Michelle out on her being the representative for 'the gays' (I hate that expression that she uses). 'LGBT' is not something that trips off the tongue very easily but I was amazed at how quickly Perez would say it, over and over again, lol. (sorry, that's quite a random point )

Great post, that's exactly how I see him. Really hope he's on UK tv more often, I just love the fella!

It's a travesty that beige Best, Spokewoman for the Minorities Visage and the virtually silent Katie Price are in the final when the true winner - the one who did his homework, knew what was expected of him for his fee and played the game brilliantly - is out. In a couple of years, we probably won't even remember who won but we will always remember Perez.

I take people on face value - I don't care what Perez has been like in the past (and that's pretty well documented). He's sorted himself out, is looking in great shape (and I actually think he's really attractive) and has admitted he was a tosser in his past life - people can, and do, change. He's been open, honest and sussed them all out perfectly accurately throughout the whole series, and in interviews since leaving. I just don't get all the hate, and Luisa nobody Zissman was a classless disgrace on BOTS on Wednesday night.

And one of the worst things of all has been people saying he's not fit to be a dad - based on what, a 45 minute edit of a reality show?!

Scarlet O'Hara - your post that Nesta quoted is spot on. It's exactly what I've said about him for weeks. He has a child-like optimism that I think is an endearing quality. He has been fiercely loyal to his few friends in the house, in a way none of the other housemates have. I'm still struggling to understand why so many hate him.

Why in the world did the uploader remove the video?

You can watch it on ITV Player. That's how I caught up with it although skip to half way through because Perez is second half. It really was enlightening particularly about the Alex/Perez situation.
