Edit - Okay I scrolled up and wrote this after writing out my admitted rant just to point out there is no real discernible order to this rant. Im just saying it as it comes to me. Im saying it because its got to a point where I need to vent this out and this is the forum to do it. I just figured it was better to just have one huge moan than a few different topics so here goes nothing...

(God Bless DS for allowing rants )

The Many Things Wrong With A Show I Once Loved

STOP USING YOUR SPIN OFF SHOW TO TELL ME WHO I SHOULD BE SUPPORTING. All throughout your Channel 4 years even when you had HM's who were complete and utter idiots and you could see that with your own eyes, you still remained neutral and indifferent to all of the housemates on BBLB and BBBM. You gave all of the housemates pretty much equal amounts of time of pro's and negative's until they were evicted. So stop telling me who has been on "an incredible journey" or who has been "undoubtedly a great housemate". You are paid to put on the show...not to tell people who they should be voting for as an acceptable winner. I don't care if you think people like Hopkins or Helen have gone on some kind of redemption jounrey...stop telling peopl they are a worthy winner.

That's not for you to decide... Thats for us to decide. Heck you even hired a Geordie Bloke 15 years ago to tell us that we decide. Or have you just now decided that maybe you don't like that part of the show.

You know these earth shattering twists that are going to "rock the house to its very core"...Ever plan on delivering on one of those promises? Its basic common sense that if you build something up so much...more often than not it will not live up to expectations. Especially when its a way to try and keep the "contraversial" housemates away from being nominated.

Tell you what you could do if you wanted a huge shock twist that would rock the house to its very core...Bare with me because this might seem a little out there. Have them go up the stairs to nominate in the Diary Room in secret...and then when they least expect it...Keep it secret . You do so many twists and turns to ensure that nominations are not a secret anymore...that its not a shock. I would be more shocked if you had normal nominations and people didn't find out who nominated them.

If you have 12-16 people living in a house where they can not escape from, conflict will naturally happen. You don't need to always play hidden clips showing the bitching (Especially when you only tend to show it to people likely to pick fights). You seem more than capable of picking housemates who just love to have an argument to begin with.

If you want an actual "game show" where anything coul happen and go anyway, stop doing tasks every week to tell them public perception. You might want to be able to control who gets nominated through these tasks but it literally leaves Zero element of suprise. Every time you do these tasks...I could tell you who will be up for eviction. We don't need Eamon Holmes, James Jordan & Jim Davidson going in and telling people what everyone thinks of them. We don't need you to read out negative tweets about people...they are not supposed to know that kind of thing.

Speaking of which...with your nominations. Can you just have a constant rule of what makes you up for eviction. If you don't want it as the two or more with the highest number of votes because you want more people up, fine but at least come up with a new rule you stick to. Like 2 Nominations or more and your up...don't change it on the fly so you can yet again control who is up for eviction.

You are supposed to be "Reality TV" or at least that is what you call yourself. Reality is the state of things as they actually exist, as opposed to an idealistic or notional idea of them. So the more you interfere with the natural flow of things...is the less you actually are a "Reality" show. Right now I can barely tell the difference between yourselves and Made In Chelsea...well actually MIC is probably a little more high end at this point.

Your shopping tasks half the time I can't tell what actually qualifies for them passing the task. Sometimes you don't even give an answer to that yourself. For all we know your just sat there deciding whether you want to let them eat this week or not.

As for Live Feed...You know what I do want live feed, but I can live without it. The problem is you will never get away from people pointing out how much you interferre unless they can watch events unfold live themselves. If the cost is an issue to put it on TV then fine...Channel 4 successfully got paid live stream online. This has to be an easier option for you.

Even as it stands right now...you give us clips online for us to see to create "Exclusive as it happens content" and I get that, I really do. But to then only put half of the clip and in turn half of the story on the HL show is shooting yourself in the foot. I know HL shows are limited but if you are going to make the full clip available online and not put it in full on the HL show there will always be people pointing out how you are editing it in someones favour and you only have yourself to blame.

Most importantly and I Cant stress this enough...This rant is happening because I at one point loved this show. I watched Big Brother 1, I remember being captivated when Nasty Nick was ejected. I remember Brian Dowling breaking barriers when he first won, I remember when Kate became the first female winner. I remember when Nadia became the first TG winner. Ive enjoyed a hell of a lot of highs as a fan of Big Brother and defended it throuh a hell of a lot of lows...

The problem is the lows these days are by far outweighing the highs. Its getting harder and harder to justify to myself why I still watch this. Its completely unrecognizeable to the show I knew. I know you have to move with the times...but this is not Big Brother to me anymore.

I can't for 100% sure say im never going to watch this show again, because I still want to be a fan. But when BB is on at 9pm and I look and see a new BBC/ITV drama or maybe a comedy panel show on elsewhere...its getting a hell of a lot easier to choose them over Big Brother. The record button isn't even looking that appealing anymore.

I know you check these forums and will still probably not care in any way shape or form about this post but as someone who want's to be watching and supporting this show. Please remember...you had a much loved award winning show for a reason. It used to be something that people loved to talk about in work, school...anywhere. Now it is a walking definition of "Guilty Pleasure"...I don't know that many people who admit to watching this. Certainly not people who will admit to it in large groups.

Yeah so huge massive rant done for now

For anyone who has took the time to read...thanks very much.

Well said. If you don't mind, I'd like to post here something which I just posted in another thread:

It's far too manipulated by the producers now. I haven't enjoyed the show since last January which says it all; it was one of the least interfered with series of the C5 era. They put the handcuffs on, shoved them in, and just went with it (for the most part).

Everyone uses the phrase 'back to basics.' I'm not sure that's entirely possible; however, C5 should allow one series to run through with as little interference from the producers as possible; at least do one series and see how it goes. The problem is that they're so scared of ratings sliding that they feel the need to constantly interfere with and manipulate the show. How about, for one series, we have these basic rules:
1) No contact with the outside world. Eviction announcements are to be held within a studio and the freezing of the vote lines and the whole, 'the first person safe in this vote is,' will be scrapped. (This whole thing is a huge gripe for me). Instead the housemates will simply be told who has been evicted.
2) Regular nominations occur each Monday. Nominations are kept secret, housemates are forbidden from discussing them, and producers cannot throw in any 'twists' to alter the nominations to save (or push out) any individual housemates.
3) No meddling from the producers; producers will not talk to the housemates, housemates will be addressed in the DR only by 'Big Brother' and no discussions will occur between housemates and anyone who is not a housemate in regards to anything within or outside of the house (ie, BB cannot tell housemates how to behave in certain situations).
4) No one is to enter the house apart from the housemates. No producers directing tasks, etc. Tasks etc will once again be instructed via sheets of paper which housemates will have to collect from the DR as was the case in the early years on C4. BB will do as little as possible to instruct, instead acting more as a referee.

It's the constant OBVIOUS interference from the producers, with stunts such as playing back nominations (in an attempt to artificially create tension) and constantly altering the nominations process (so that the producers can keep in the housemates they think are bringing in the viewers) which is destroying this show.

Of course one of the reasons they axed live feed has to be so they can get away more with editing HMs how they want them to look....

I've amended this line to reflect the truth more......

It's a very good post and I wouldn't class it as a rant.

I know what you mean about finding it easier to choose to watch something else. Heavens- in the old (early) days I would feel lost and deflated when Big Brother ended, now I'm thinking I'll be glad when it's over.

Yet I still watch, sad person that I am, in the hope that one day it might again resemble the show we knew and loved.

I also have a gripe I wish to add to the list .........

The Diary Room is SANCTUARY to all Housemate.
Meaning anything said in the Diary Room will stay in the Diary Room. & not broadcasted to the rest of the housemates like a tell-tale tit
It's like a Confessional Box & that's how it should be treated.

Great posts from the OP and Piipp. I agree with both of you.
My main bugbear is that the housemates should be able to talk freely in the diary room without the risk that anything they say will be played back to the house as it makes housemates far more guarded in what they say.
Also we see very little of the housemates talking in the diary room now. I always enjoyed seeing how people coped in the house and how they could put forward some very different views in the diary room.

A bit late to the party, but I want to echo everyone else's sentiments in saying that this was a great post that pretty much reflects everything I feel about Big Brother nowadays.

Having watched, and at times obsessed over Big Brother since its inception, I really feel the way the show is produced today, with its manipulation and favouritism so blatant, goes against everything that made the show what it once was. I really hope someone from Endemol reads this, but sadly I doubt they will.

Even as it stands right now...you give us clips online for us to see to create "Exclusive as it happens content" and I get that, I really do. But to then only put half of the clip and in turn half of the story on the HL show is shooting yourself in the foot. I know HL shows are
limited but if you are going to make the full clip available online and not put it in full on the HL show there will always be people pointing out how you are editing it in someones favour and you only have yourself to blame.

Most importantly and I Cant stress this enough...This rant is happening because I at one point loved this show. I watched Big Brother 1, I remember being captivated when Nasty Nick was ejected. I remember Brian Dowling breaking barriers when he first won, I remember when Kate became the first female winner. I remember

when Nadia became the first TG winner.

I know you have to move with the times...but this is not Big Brother to me
anymore.

I know you check these forums and will still probably not care in any way shape or form
about this post but as someone who want's to be watching and supporting this show. Please remember...you had a much loved award winning show for a reason. It used to be something that people loved to talk about in work, school...anywhere. Now it is a walking definition of "Guilty Pleasure"...I don't know that many people who admit to watching this. Certainly not people who will admit to it in large groups.

Yeah so huge massive rant done for now
G
For anyone who has took the time to read...thanks very much.

Great post Nathan, one thing I would add is, last year the awful Helen woods got a free pass to the final and she behaved appallingly, knowing she could do what she wanted and did. No more stunts like that please. Let everyone have an equal chance at winning.

Having watched, and at times obsessed over Big Brother since its inception, I really feel the way the show is produced today, with its manipulation and favouritism so blatant, goes against everything that made the show what it once was. I really hope someone from Endemol reads this, but sadly I doubt they will.”
