Virgin mobile sim locks + Asda Mobile
Hi can any one tell me will the virgin sim locks allow other EE based sims to work, I know most EE locked phones will work with other EE MVNOs EG virgin and Asda sims, But do Virgin sim locks act the same or will they specificity only work on virgin, Got a free ZTE Blade L2 with mi grandmas rewards and want to put a asda mobile sim in it, I wont get the Asda sim or phone for a few days so thought id ask on here before hand (can always try when they arrive obviously), If not i know virgin will unlock the phone for £15 but if it will work obviously its £15 saved lol
Thanks for any info Ash |

Devices locked to Virgin tend to only work with a Virgin SIM, it has been years since I've last tried it though.

You read a lot of tosh in some forums about Virgin and Tesco phones etc being "double locked" but this is just an urban myth, the case really is that there are two possible ways that you can lock a phone as follows:-
Network (NCK) lock, this locks the phone so that it will only accept a sim for a certain network but it will work with any provider that uses that network so a network locked EE phone for instance will accept a Virgin sim. Service Provider (SPCK) lock, this does exactly what it says on the tin and locks the phone so that it will only accept a sim from a single service provider. Most MVNOs service provider lock their phones so that they will only work with their sim cards, often this is because they heavily discount the price of their handsets so Tesco for instance, don't want you buying a phone from them on the cheap then immediately ditching them and putting your O2 sim in it. |

I know virgin sims work in most EE branded phones or as you want to put NCK because ive used many in the past with a virgin sim and they always worked fine nothing to do with reading in forums about it happening. Hence why i asked the question about weather a virgin locked phone or SPCK as you put it, As the last time i touched a virgin locked phone was 10 year ago and back then you could not use a t-mobile sim even though it worked the opposite way and thought it might of changed by now, The phones bought for my grandma have always been either unlocked of bought as Tmobile/EE branded never virgin branded as they usually costed more, only got this free as shed built some rewards up but have no intention of using virgin with it as personally i think they are expensive The info you provided was helpful but there was no need to be a douche about the way you provided it. |
