Is there a rule that says whenever Prince shows up to a place there must always be a standing ovation? What a twerp!

It would be nice if he actually maybe did something relevant to deserve this fawning adoration!

Surely if fans give him a standing ovation, it's voluntary?

The highlight for me was Adam Levine and Gwen Stefani. Such a gorgeous performance! Sia really got my attention also.

If you couldn't see anything wrong with it then you are biased as a fan, it wasn't great, her dancing wasn't smooth it was clumsy or as another poster said stiff, but fans don't like the criticism.

What has been number 1 for the last few weeks?

Prince/The Time were doing that way back in the 80's and yet it seems it still remains relevant today.

He's a music legend and all legends will get a standing ovation even if they haven't done anything of note in recent years.

My son was there as a nominee in the "Best Album Category" for his work on the Sam Smith album so I am naturally disappointed that Smith didn't win. He has got a fine nominee's medal though!

Relevant to WHO? Not EVERYTHING is about you and your generation! Prince has forgotten more about music and songwriting than anyone who is "relevant" right now will ever learn......

Beyond selfish and self centered.

What was wrong - rubbish dancing and distinct lack of live vocals to boot.

BIB - Get a grip

Comeback - as in, comeback following her previous album campaign that vanished without a trace after the Superbowl. I got the sense she was determined to make this album 'happen' with killer performances to make it so. On that front the Grammy performance disappointed, for me.

he doesn't force people to stand up. it's the audience that does that. they obviously respect him. one of the most popular singles and albums at the moment is influenced by him

as for relevant, he does as much relevant as most other people there, releasing albums and doing live gigs and tv appearances in the prior year. prince released two albums a few months ago, plus has other music he's written and produced for other artists released within the last year and more coming soon for artists like rita ora who is pretty relevant. in the week of the grammies he played in london and dubai. i saw him myself at a celeb packed show with supermodels, rock stars, movie stars and tv stars. i was chatting to a few celebs who were incredibly impressed at how good a live performer he was

also, unlike many other artists getting awards, he writes his own music and plays his own instruments

but then maybe they didn't know it was prince and just thought it was the tango man that came onstage

Most of the press reviews were very positive and they aren't "fans". I think people who think it was bad are just the usual Madonna haters.

What is this rubbish with Rihanna, Kanye and McCartney.....more ballady rubbish!

Is there any decent pop music to liven things up a bit?”

How very egotistical to try and excuse away an opposing point of view. This is a discussion forum not an appreciation forum mate, if you can't handle or even compute that people are capable of different opinions to your own this is not the place for you.

I heard Rihanna's performance was very good. I caught a bit of Beyonce's performance and seemed to be quite good as well.

Am astounded that Prince was able to quote " Albums still matter. Like books and Black lives, albums still matter.” and there is not a national outrage. Imagine if Adele or someone said "white lives matter" they'd be calling for head and she'd have to make a grovelling public apology and the BBC would ban her music etc etc....

folk are used to ignoring the incoherant babble from prince. but as "black lives matter" is a known movement it actually means something to people who listen to what he says. the hashtag was chosen as the word(s) of the year last year. so if you know a bit about the world outside of pop music, what he said actually means something

I really think her vocals are horrendous too. Shouty and horrible enunciation.
