Google search no edit autocomplete suggestion buttons

I have just got an iPad but have found a really annoying problem with Google website. There's no arrow button for editing the autocomplete suggestions that appear when typing the search query. How am I meant to edit or add to what's suggested before searching?

It seems I am the only one on the entire planet who sees this as a major problem.

The tablet version of the Google website has been poorly designed. It seems it hasn't been properly designed with touchscreen in mind and assumes all tablet keyboards have up/down arrow keys when the iPad clearly doesn't.

I have found a workaround by following the guide at http://www.technipages.com/ios-chang...gent-in-safari and using an iPhone user agent string. The problem is this has a side effect of other sites also displaying phone versions of sites instead of tablet versions and only works for Safari. Does anyone know a better workaround?

It's ridiculous that the arrow buttons that enable appending to suggestions are missing on the iPad. Using Google without those buttons is too much of a pain for me.
