In fairness it got approved in 2007 but didn't get royal assent/permission till 2008. In fairness this time the government is being good delaying it an extra year from 2017 to 2018 operational status is going save 1 Billion pounds. Now if only that extra billion could be used for BDUK or MIP lol.

Still too long, especially as I'm on the Western route which won't even see these services till late 2019.

At least you're on the pampered bit of the western route.

Those of us below the Thames Valley have no chance of a serious rail service before about 2050

Which line is that?

Reading to Waterloo? I thought things were ok on this route? South West trains right? Usually on time according to my experience.

Reading/Newbury to Taunton/Exeter/Plymouth/Cornwall.

It's very, very neglected compared to the pampering Paddington to Bristol/Swansea is getting.

Although the Reading to Waterloo line is so horrifically slow normally, and god help you if you're a normal user of that train on a day when the Paddington line has had a hissy fit in rush hour

Are you actually checking EE coverage as well as the top one at least is already covered by DS EE4G.. Would be good if you used the Rootmetrics app to put Vodafone on the map.

I have checked EE in Cwmbran and get around 13-14mb down no double speed in fact it has slowed down since last year in Cwmbran, The next town over pontypool has double speed and and easy get 100mb dl alot of the time,

I have also found that 800mhz 4g travels further than the coverage map shows and if you go indoors not much signal is lost,

Tested 3 in Cwmbran and its very congested no 4g in Cwmbran from 3 yet but some samo cabs have been installed at some mast sites and a set of new huawei multiband panel antennas has been sitting on the base of the compound waiting to be installed,

Is there any point using hashtags and other twitter markup on this forum? Does it auto post or something?

I witnessed upgrade work being carried out today on the legacy O2 mast opposite Smith's Pet Foods in Ynysforgan, Swansea, south Wales. Spoke to the chaps working on the mast who confirmed they were upgrading an old O2 3G mast to Cornerstone 4G.

This should be a massive improvement for the people of Ynysforgan, Clydach and Morriston. My home town of Clydach has only ever seen 2G from O2, whereas I get strong 4G from EE, and 3G from Vodafone and Three. Hopefully this mast upgrade will mean that I will finally see 4G in my house from Vodafone and O2.

The guy I spoke to said that although the work will be completed by tomorrow, the testing may take a week, and the 4G transmissions will be live within 9 days.

Well the road was closed and the monopole was not changed and monmouth town 4g is now removed from the vodafone planned 4g section maybe they are waiting for the merge with 02 & three now?

Yes, it's all happening down here in Devon. Parts of Plymouth and Paignton/ Torquay were marked as planned on the 4G map for VOD. Now they are NOT planned. Map also shows 3G being turned off in Barnstaple. Totnes has been planned and not planned for 3G off and on for years. EDGE still doesn't work apparently.

Way to go VOD. At this rate, you'll conquer the planet. Maybe they just whack off all day while they dream of working for EE?

Don't worry too much about it vanishing from the predicted coverage map, this happened when they upgraded my nearest 4g mast on Vodafone a few months ago, it was planned coverage for weeks, vanished, was listed as a fault on the mast they were working on, then a few days later I drove past and spotted the flat panels on the mast had be upgraded, a week or so later I was 4g live, a about 2 weeks after that it was on the coverage map, though I'm still sure they are showing the coverage area for the wrong mast! Oh... And it's still listed as a fault they are working on, challenging circumstances they say.. So there's still hope,

Are they expanding 2g at the moment or are they focusing on existing site upgrades? I suppose it might not get done by MiP if EE have 4g there.

Good ole Voda massive gaps in the network where I am and the predicted coverage shows 3G (albeit 900) going off in the next 3 months... Lol - realise it's a mistake, but sadly illustrates how coverage is a low priority...

With the volume of capital on their balance sheet post Verizon sale, they should be aiming for 99.9 % coverage! Stop cutting corners, trying to get rural coverage with cheap (and nasty) stunts - plugging into the Ethernet port of grannies 4mb broadband for free...

In Swansea /Llanelli they've upgraded a lot of O2 monopoles (good locations though), but the broader more macro network is still untouched... Streaming would be impossible (DAB is dead) on my journey's but doable on EE...

Time will tell I guess.

Moving on 10 - 12 years I suspect we'll all still be here complaining that while others have 6G to 85%, Vodafone still don't have much 4G yet!
I mean, why break the habit of a lifetime.
