Can someone explain the betting odds to me?
They really confuse me, calum is currently 1st favorite at 6/4 and katie is at 2/1 , but that's at one bookies, like 6 and 4 and 2 and 1 and what do they mean? Sorry not a brave person so never placed a bet before !

6/4- if you placed £4 on, you'd get £6 back plus your stake of £4.
2/1- £1 on you double your money and get your stake back. Sometimes easier to convert to decimal form and add 1. So what the calculation is, is your return. £1 @ 6/4 =£1@2.5 =£2.50 return £1 @2/1= £1x 3.0 =£3.00 return |

So the smaller the fraction the bigger the favourite.
Lets make it simple by placing an imaginary bet of £40. If Calum won - your £40 would win you £60 (6 for every 4 bet or 1.5/1) 2/1 odds wins you 2 for every 1 so £40 would win you £80. It does get more confusing because you can be odds on when you get less than 1/1. For example 1/2 or 0.5/1. In this instance your £40 would win you £20. In every case, if you win, you get your stake back so you don't lose money!! Hope this helps. |
