I was always intrigued by these complex stories from 2003-2006. It says in the article that "It is widely rumored that the Firm will return in 2015, featuring Tryfan Roberts as Dirty Den's illegitimate son, seeking revenge".
I know this is from Wikipedia but what do you think of this? Could this be Richard Blackwood's character? Did you like the firm? Would you like to see it return?

I always enjoyed the gangster periods in EE (and in Brookie). I wouldn't be surprised - there's been talk about power-shifts around the square in connection with the Lucy aftermath, plus a few mentions on-screen of Phil not being the man that he was, and being past it and out of touch. So yes, it would open up some interesting opportunities. I suspect Max would be involved somehow, perhaps that's the connection with giving him The Arches? It would make him a lot more interesting than just someone who works his way around the Square bedding every woman who crosses his path.

I miss the gangster days and I think it is possible that we could be returning to those days in some sort of way. I also think somethings been going on with Phil in prison or I'm just reading too far into it.

I wonder if they brought Terry Bates back, he could be the guy who is at war with Phil...also i doubt phil is weak these days, if he wasnt the man he once was how come he has not ended up in hospital from a fight.

I started watching the show regularly just after Pauline died, so round about January 2007... I thoroughly enjoyed the show 2007-2010, and have enjoyed it again ever since late 2013 (Although not quite as much), so I can't really comment on the gangster period... The show has still continued strong without it, so it's good that it wasn't something that the show has had to rely on.

However, it did look like the gangster period gave us some good stuff! Max, Phil, Buster and Richard Blackwood's character being involved would be brilliant! Also, it would probably put an end to the Hollyoaks fans twitter comments such as 'EastEnders hasn't banged since 2008, kmt'...

They are re-introduced back in 2003, which is when we saw the show go into a 2003-2006 rough patch, and we saw the show start to receive quite some criticism, after the wonderful, golden era of the early noughties (2000, 2001, 2002)! So, if they are going to re-introduce the firm in 2015, they need to do it carefully and properly!

Sounds interesting. I'd like to see new villains on the Square. I want to see Phil knocked off his perch once and for all

EDIT I'd like to see a criminal demand protection money from the Albert and for Sharon to blame Phil then find out it's not him. In this scenario I want Phil to be scared!

This actually sounds incredible. I always loved the gangster storylines and its a great way of introducing some more storylines that differ from other soaps at the moment (aside from Hollyoaks).

The OP wasn't just talking about the Wikipedia article. He also opened a discussion about the idea of new villains in the Square. He did point out the article was just from Wikipedia so I don't mind.

I liked the way they used to do The Firm, as the shadowy big bad the Square's bad boys are scared of.

If TPTB want to keep Phil as the ultimate "Hardman" of the square, I think getting him - and Ben and Jay - into The Firm would be a believable way to do it.

I have to admit though, I don't trust the Wikipedia rumour about "Tryfan Roberts", mainly because running the name through google gives a link to this thread, to the wiki page and a football fan's twitter.

I was never into the gangster storylines so I hope not. I don't really find so called hard men intimidating and beating people up that entertaining, personally.

I doubt they would introduce another child of dens at the exact same time Sharon finds out more about her birth family.m

True. That would just be complicated.

Why would Den's (other) secret son seek revenge? Dalton and Vinnicombe were already dead by the time Den returned in 2003.

It's made up. Someone's clearly been trolling Wikipedia.

Same here! Pam/Les/Donna is hardly Eastenders "getting it's balls back". Some credible gangsters would be much better.

I don't think we will see another Gangster era in EE. Max Will end up giving back the arches back to Phil because I can't see Phil in the square without the Arches. Max will probably go back banging woman especially with Denise van outen is coming in.

So you'd rather see EastEnders spiral into a dark descent of unrealistic sensationalism rather than reflect kitchen sink, true to life drama?

Pur-lease.

Stick to Hollyoaks, wash your mouth out and sit on the naughty step.

Maybe the firm could try Recruiting Jay? Giving him a storyline.
