I used to LOVE Jacob's fruit Clubs, and could have probably happily eaten them into diabetes until the company was sold off and the new owners ruined them. The last time I ate them, they were vile. The biscuit tasted dry and as tasteless as a water biscuit, and the chocolate... wasn't. It was like brown lard or something.

I'd love to get a load of old bars from the 1970s and compare (including weighing) them to the current versions, then hear the manufacturers preach that they're still as good as they've always been.

I have heard they've become smaller over the years. I used to think it was because I was a child so it seemed bigger, now I'm bigger it seems smaller...but apparently not.

Yes, Nestle has been unpalatable for years now. I used to love Quality Street when it was Rowntree but since it was bought by Nestle, they're vile!

I ditched supermarket sold "chocolate" long ago. The amount of cocoa butter that bulks what they call "chocolate" out, has this real greasy waxy texture. Not to mention the ever changing sizes, changing of recipes etc plus the overall amount of sugar.

I exclusively buy Hotel Chocolat products now. Yes, you pay a premium, but it is a premium for British made quality chocolate that never dips below 40% cocoa, with dedicated stores that are well laid out and helpful staff who know their products.

A premium? That's putting it lightly. A small "slab" oh hotel chocolate cost about £3.95.
It's great if you can afford it, it really is as it's lovely stuff. I still think lidil and Aldi chocolate is just as nice.
I once saw a lady spend £150 in hotel chocolate, she was from Japan and it was Christmas presents she was sending home. Can you imagen the postal fees
Apparently they don't have chocolate like us in Japan. I'm sure to some that's obvious...but I do wonder what there chocolates like.

That's slightly unfair. The slabs you are talking about are their "selectors" which are small hand sized slabs of chocolate. You get two of those in a pack which costs 3.50. Keep in mind though they are 50% or even 65% cocoa so you feel more full up eating them because they are not bulked out with empty sugar calories, that means you feel like eating less in each sitting meaning they last longer anyway.

It is just what they call the various things they sell. They are "selections" of their range in packets that cost less than the full boxes or giant slabs.

Noooo, not Flake?! I don't eat chocolate very often, I'm more of a savoury snacker...but I took a wee notion today and bought a Twirl. I couldn't tell you when I last had some chocolate so I was fair looking forward to it. I was disappointed. I'm no chocolate expert but usually get that "Aww...lovely." sensation in these circumstances but instead it was more of a "This isn't right..." thing. It wasn't as chocolatey? Different texture, almost oily?! rather than smooth and melty.

They've added lizard oil to the mixture.

They did that in the Australian Cadbury's , reduced the amount of cocoa butter and replaced it with palm oil

It appears Kraft are slowly changing recipes so the British Cadbury is using the same cheaper recipes as in the USA.

Well part of the reason we have an obesity problem is perhaps because things that should be treated as rare treats have become something we can afford to eat far too often?

This would never have happened in the '70s....................”

Are you sure it says New Recipe and not New Peel and Reveal, as they have changed the wrapper
