Whilst working my way through rewatching the Sons of Anarchy series, I happened to notice that episodes in other regions have been cut.

Specifically, one episode which is an hour long on the UK region is only 45mins in Netherlands. I only noticed as I started watching the episode on my phone (which was on UK Netflix) and then switched partway through to my PS3 which was linked to the Netherlands at the time.

Has anyone else noticed cuts in TV shows or films between regions?

Maybe it varies on the content the show has? Different regions are strict on what can be shown.

In this case whole scenes were cut which were just exposition, no vilolence or language, which is why I found it odd.

Only reason I can see for the cuts was to keep the episode running time to around 45mins, which most of the other episodes run to. I could understand doing that for TV scheduling purposes, but seems unnecessary on a streaming service.

Sometimes its the licence owner of the show for the territory who've cut the show to sell it as a 45minute show and that's the only version they sell

As far as I'm aware Netflix don't make any changes to programmes nor are they allowed to. They show what is given to them.

A good example of this is X Files, there are no subtitles when a character speaks in a foreign language nor are there the standard title cards and all episodes are in 4:3 aspect ratio even tho the latter seasons are widescreen. I got in touch with them about the subtitles because it really bugged me and they told me it was down to Fox and what versions of the episodes they wanted shown.

So while there maybe restrictions on what can be shown or editorial changes its not because of Netflix.

That's interesting, I hadn't realised that. Thanks for the info.
