With the girls it seems one always ends up alone, with each girl being excluded in turn.

Theo and Tylers relationship was a very special one, Theo really invested time in Tyler and got him to trust him, and they both just seemed happy to chat to each other instead of being boisterous
That was a brilliant program , a lot more interesting than some of the rubbish these days |

I keep a big box full of their old toys for when my grandchildren visit, and the thing they all want to play with is my old telephone, and they all play the game of 'talking to someone' - as we found on tonight's prog. they are quite revealing.

Was disappointed in the female teacher in this episode. At the beginning, when picking captains for the relay race, Jack, Nathaniel and Theo all put their hand up to be the captain. Whilst Jack and Nathaniel shouted and got angry with his each other, both wanting to be the captain, Theo sat their very quietly still with his hand up. And then the teacher chooses Jack to be the boys' captain! Cue, Jack showing off and boasting and getting exactly what he wanted and a very cross Nathaniel. The teacher was most unprofessional in my opinion, Jack learnt that by shouting and moaning he got what he wanted, Nathaniel "lost the battle" and would feel the teacher favours Jack's strong, demanding behaviour and poor Theo would feel that sitting their patiently, putting his hand up to be captain got him nowhere. The teacher should've rewarded pleasant, sensible and correct behaviour and made Theo the captain. Lovely boy too as the programme progressed.

loved it, and was surprised at the maturity of some of the language/interactions e.g. girl asking the boy what she should do to make friends with the other girl again. and the girl playing vets and saying 'I'll just take a note in the book.' and let's face it, all of these traits (whether it's being nice, embracing or excluding people, bullying etc) are simply carried on into adult life.
didn't like the toy game at the end though. okay it's maybe a valid experiment for the psychologists but not pleasant for the two kids given pegs. |

I loved this, Theo was totally adorable and reminded me of the kid in About A Boy. In fact they all were adorable in their own way. I watched this with a smile on my face all the way through.

How many similar team games did they play throughout the week? One incident at the age of 4 and you think Theo's learnt that the loud kids get their own way? They didn't ask Theo what he'd learnt if anything, in a piece to camera either, he might have forgotten the incident as quickly as Nathaniel seemed to when Jack picked him for his team. What did Nathaniel learn, he was just as loud but didn't get the Captain's job. Teachers won't pick the same children who put their hands up to answer questions in class. What makes you think the Teacher will always reward the loud kids in this instance? I'm assuming they teach them something about child development during those years of Teacher training. Then again, any vaguely thoughtful adult would try to change things around with the different personality's in play, if only for the entertainment value of creating different interactions. Gawd knows what Theo's Mother was on about, Love and Tigers some other stuff I'll choose to label as Pish. I'm a (Working Class) lefty liberal type, but she was too, too too much for me, I'd rather go off and learn about the laws of thermodynamics than get my head around her set of beliefs. I Kinda liked Tylers Dad's approach to his 'personality', doesn't matter about the label, he's just himself and he'd be happy with that. We had Skyler?? last series who wasn't having anyone been her friend, just wasn't interested. I hope we get to see more of the quieter kids this series. Anyway, cracking show, opening 'I'll tell the Tooth fairy' had me in bits and I had to pause the program. I must be getting old, had me in floods of tears all the way through, just the concentrated joy of children, plus the many giggles they gave me, watching it again now and it's having the same effect. |

Only just caught up with this show tonight and absolutely loved it!
A few points - I think it was deliberate that the teacher chose one quiet child and one boisterous child as captain as part of the experiment to see the reactions of the other pupils. Likewise, the pupils that got given the rubbish presents were carefully selected to see the varied reactions - presumably with parental permission and they very soon got given the decent presents so I doubt they'll be scarred for life. Theo came across as a lovely child and it was nice to see that his persistent attempts of trying to befriend Tyler paid off - I work with autistic kids and I'd be surprised if Tyler isn't autistic although it is difficult to tell for sure at such a young age. Tia was very advanced for her age, although a bit precocious - imagine what she'll be like as a teenager if she's such a little madam now! It's also very interesting to see the differences between the boys and girls even at such a young age. I know the series continues with 5 and 6 year olds but I would be interested to work backwards and see 3 years olds. Lastly, my son is planning to go into teaching and hasn't yet decided whether to go for Primary or Secondary - I am saving the programme for him to watch and I will be amazed if he chooses Secondary after watching it!
