just picked up one of these via the "very" deal (£70 using a voucher) and i have to say its a fantastic bit of kit !!
anyone got one and found a reasonable bluetooth keyboard/case for it ?

I thought you might like to have benefit of some of my experiences.

A "must have" bit of software for this type of tablet is touchmousepointer

This emulates a trackpad, and you can even use it full screen (my preference). This is great when in desktop mode as you have much more precision over selecting pull down menus etc.

Software is a touch flakey, and you sometimes you have to "click" the application icon several times to get to pointer mode. I find it is best to wait a couple of seconds between each change of mode click.

Other obvious but useful type of software to install is teamviewer, splashtop or similar - makes it easier to configure LINX 8 from a PC/laptop.

Macrium Reflect also works on this PC - it does backup partitions as a bitmap type rather than file based, so it is able to back up the "compressed" C drive (really a .wim file). I have not tested the recovery yet (will only do that when all else fails), and I also have backup of the recovery partition etc. I store personal data on SD card anyway, so resetting to vanilla state is a pain but not a big deal.

By the way - contrary to information often supplied, it is not a good idea to remove the recovery partition to just to save 5GB of space. Obviously a recovery backup is essential, but some users have had issues when the recovery partition has been removed e.g.

If you need space buy a large SD card or NAS solution. Don't risk things by removing
partition unnecessarily.

One thing I have discovered is you need a good 2A power supply as supplied, directly connected to table to charge effectively (I like to have one at work, and one at home so I do not have to carry chargers). I tried charging via 2A via a multi usb port adaptor, and it did not work properly taking ages.

I have had no issues with wifi contrary to some peoples experiences.
Bluetooth works well.

I can stream videos from google drive, and it plays them back fine. Have not tried the onedrive yet.

i used a £30 off "first order when you sign up for credit" voucher and will now pay it off.

very are selling the 32gb version whereas currys look to be advertising a 16gb version. ive thrown a 16gb micro sd card in but have ordered a 64gb one. ive been loading apps up and installing some desktop stuff and so far its all still running very quickly

not sure the keyboard is as good as android but i intend it to serve a different purpose. casual browsing and gaming for android and anything a little more intense for windows.

screen is clear and bright. touch is responsive (5 point allegedly) and speakers are loud - although both are at the bottom so to one side in landscape.

windows (including desktop) very useable on an 8" screen.

I find the default touch keyboard as supplied sometimes a little irritating when entering numbers and letters as the numbers are in a separate (number pad) whereas I normally use numbers on top row.

You can setup up a more conventional touch keyboard under keyboard settings (from charms bar, select setting, PC device, typing), and then you can install the standard keyboard (as well as one supplied) which has numbers along top row (what a contradiction - the standard keyboard is optional!). You can also turn off the annoying keyclick etc.

Actaully, I find standard keyboard better than android keypad in fact, because you can use left, right, up down arrows to easily move cursor where you want, whereas you have to try and move cursor e.f. to a bit of text you want to correct by clicking on correct location - easy with a mouse but harder with a touchpad.

Sometimes though the touchkeypad obscures what you wnat to type (espcially in landsacpe mode). You can run OSK to get the accessibility onscreen keyboard up, and you can resize this/move it, making life easier

When OSK is on, the touch keyboard is disabled. Close down osk, and touch keyboard is renabled automatically.


Finally, I also recommend installing nircmd aand setting up some shortcuts to dim screen. I find battery lasts much longer when dimmed than when at 100%. Even reducing to 50% helps and is quite viewable. If there is no light e.g. a dark room, even 10% is quite viewable.

Not that you can do much wrong with a design of what is essentially a rectangle without any moving parts, but it looks very nice in pictures.

A very good recommendation. It makes the desktop much easier to use, particularly so on smaller screens like 8" tablets and below.

to be honest i wasnt expecting too much based on the price but its quite nicely built, feels solid and is remarkably quick so far. seems to handle basic games well (ive tried fifa 15 and asphalt 8 and they play great). maybe a little heavier than you might expect but its cramming an awful lot into a small frame.
