I've just seen the spoilers and:

Spoiler
Harry tells Mary Claire he is in love with her next week before then suffering critical injuries trying to save a patient. She has reacted badly to his confession re his feelings and hasn't had an opportunity to tell him how she feels before the accident. He seems to be seriously ill over most of the next few weeks.

It doesn't sound like the 'unrecognisable' part is literal but it does sound like we are going to have a tragic ending to the storyline...

What way do people think this will play out now that Harry has survived his accident?
Do you think they will give the characters a happy ending - ala going off into the sunset together or will Harry leave alone to 'find himself'?

It seems as though the storyline has been built up over recent weeks for a reason, so I would not be surprised if they were leaving together, but then again it could have been built up just to add drama to Harry's departure.

It was interesting when Harry told Fletch that Mary Claire had 'always been the one' last week pre accident. I'm a bit unsure as to whether the writers did always plan it to pan out that way in the end or whether it was a storyline arc rethink when it became clear that the Harry/Gemma dynamic didn't work. Although I thought that it had been made fairly clear when Harry first arrived that he was not really bothered about Mary Claire and was only really interested in Gemma...

Just resurrecting this thread given that tomorrow's episode has been
Spoiler
confirmed by Jules Knight to be Harry's last episode and it is also when Mary Claire is due to leave for Chicago

From the outset I've thought this storyline was being built towards either a double exit for the characters by way of a sunset ending or a tragedy for Harry.

Given that Harry has recovered from the accident and they've already done the whole 'I need to be alone to find myself' cliche with MC planning to go to the US alone several weeks ago, I am fairly sure that the final twist will be a sunset ending with them both leaving together. Maybe with a grand gesture from Harry??? There has still not really been any official word confirming that Niamh is definitely leaving but it seems almost certain now.

I will really miss both characters. Always liked MC and have really grown to like Harry through this storyline. I am hopeful they at least get the happy ending and that MC, at least, will re appear in future.

Spoiler
Well the spoilers on WhatsonTV say that: "When Raf notices Harry's left his jacket behind and hurries to remove it, a small red box falls out of the pocket with a ring inside. Later, Mary-Claire is all prepared to set off for the States alone as planned. Is Harry really going to let Mary-Claire go without a fight?"
So I'm guessing that you're right about the grand gesture.

Great! I hope he actually gets around to it in the end after the initial mishap...

I loved that ending! Will really miss both characters but it was a great ending for them. Can't really understand why Harry wasn't ready two weeks ago, when he is now, but it was great to see a happy ending to the storyline. Very sad to see MC go as the show will not be the same without her but glad they had her leave happily!
