Does anyone think it would have been better if they cast Colin Baker as Santa in "Last Christmas"?

No. (??)

No.

Oh apparently I can't just say no. So here's some extra words for no reason at all.

Why not? Nick Frost was alright, but his version of Santa seemed just like some regular fumbling dude.

Colin looks and sounds the part, and I reckon he would have brought a greater warmth and sincerity to the role, which would have been more appropriate than the more ironic take on Santa we got, which just felt a bit cold to me.

And sure, maybe that's just the writing or directing or whatever, and Nick could probably play it that way too, but Colin would also suggest that this was some part of the Doctor's conciousness yearning to be with his friend again, adding another layer of ambiguous to the ending.

I think it would have been clever anyway.

I think Nick was a good choice. The only criticism I'd have was that he's a little cliché if you compare it with some Christmas films that have a Santa in them.

No way, that would have a been a bit too much, and a bit too reminiscent of trying to recapture of the magic of the "Curator" moment from Day of the Doctor.

Surely that was the point? He was the embodiment of what we all see as the "cliche" Santa, because that's how most people imagine Santa being.

Hmmm, I hadn't considered that angle, if only because he looks so different from how he did in his tenure, whereas Tom Baker may have altered physically, but is so undeniably Tom Baker as to see him as anything else.

I didn't see Nick Frost as cliche though. The opposite in fact. He seemed like a regular guy to me. I thought that was supposed to be the joke; that he was so very UNsanta in person, and fell apart when he tried to act the part.

But I think that joke fell flat, and robbed the episode of what could have been a warm and fuzzy Santa.
A little more heart and a little less snark would have improved the episode, at least for me.
