I need to get a decent phone for around £150 and seem to be able to pick up an S4 or HTC One for around this mark on eBay.

I was going to go with the HTC, but then thought that being second hand and likely a couple of years old I might need to replace the battery in anything I got, which got me thinking about the S4. However, Im so out of the loop I've no idea whether the S4 is a decent phone. I'd imagine it is, but it doesn't seem to get talked about as much as the S3 or S5 so maybe it was a bad year?

Would love opinions.

S4 is already getting Lollipop update, so plenty life left in it.

Think about the LG G2. It is superior to either of the phones you mention. Vodaphone were knocking them out for £150 on black friday so it may be possible to buy one new in your budget. I have just paid £120 for my son's G2, I have one myself. The only issue is the 16gb non expandable storage (there are some 32gb about).

Other than that the SGS4 is a better bet as a used device these days. The M7 never had the best battery life and they will be getting tired now.

HTC One is amazing, still, except for the camera. If you want a good camera, go S4, otherwise HTC One.

The One is still amazingly fast (it doesn't lag), the software is fairly stock, updates are quick (Lollipop should be coming this month) and it's built like a tank. Also the speakers are AMAZING, I repeat, they are AMAZING.

Thanks, battery and camera are probably the main priorities, so looks like the S4 is worth a shot.

Did look at the G2 but can't seem to find any in budget sadly. Guess they just aren't as widely available as the other two.
