Looking on Ebay I see there are DN370T boxes for sale. A lot of them make no mention that they are HD boxes, and the case itself doesn't say HD, but some are sold as HD.

I know they have an HDMI connector, but can anyone confirm that they are HD?

Thanks for that.

I wasn't sure because they are selling so cheaply on Ebay. I wonder why that is?

One possible reason is that TalkTalk customers, who were originally supplied with the Huawei box can replace it with the BT G4 box, which does exactly the same, has a much nicer remote and bigger hard drive, and is visibly quicker in operation, for just £170. Despite the BT branding, it updates itself with the TalkTalk services and works as a normal TalkTalk box.

That being stated, the Huawei box isn't a bad PVR, and if you can pick one up for a knock-down price on Ebay, it would make a good investment. Following a major software update last year, it is no longer as sluggish as it used to be (although still no match for the G4). Its strongest suits are its picture and sound quality, both of which are excellent.

I am not sure whether you need a TalkTalk subscription to access Netflix on this box, but if you don 't, be aware of one thing. Scheduled recordings can be knocked out if you watch Netflix at the same time. This is a hardware fault that was rectified in the DN372T boxes that TalkTalk now supply.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm looking for a Freeview HD PVR at the moment, & until recently I've never paid much attention to Youview boxes. With the addition of BBC iplayer, ITV player 4OD etc. these boxes look like a good buy.

There are quite a few on Ebay around the £40 mark. Think I will give one a go.

I'm not interested in Netflix, just the free stuff, so that shouldn't be a problem.

We are using a DN370T and as others say, it is a great box. We are not on TT and Netflix works fine.

Great. Just bought one. Should be here Monday or Tuesday.

I suppose there's still a chance that the recording facility could be turned off by a firmware upgrade for non subscribers, like Sky do with their boxes?

I doubt it. That is, as far as I know, very much a Sky thing.

Well it arrived yesterday (well done Myhermes!).

Only had 1 day to play with it, but working great so far. One of the first things it did was upgrade the software over the network. Much better system than waiting for OTA updates or fiddling around with USB memory sticks (Humax HDR-1800T).

All the streaming channels working fine. As with any box, there are always a few minor niggles such as no slo-mo, guide only increments in 30min steps, no dedicated library button, & cannot turn off auto-standby completely (12 hours max).

The remote works fine, apart from the silly arrow circle buttons around the OK button. They are much too fiddly to press consistently. I usually have to press them a second time to get them to respond. Either the button should have been raised an extra mm or 2, or they should have been made individual buttons.

Apart from that it's a brilliant box & well worth the £40. I might get another for upstairs.

Well I did buy another box, but this time a DN372T.

I notice that the remote is slightly different. The buttons around the OK button have been redesigned & are much more responsive. Looks like I wasn't the only one having problems with these buttons.

Something else I have just discovered.

The vol +/- & mute buttons didn't work on the 370 remote. I assumed they were like the same buttons on Sky box remotes, where they control the TV volume, rather than the volume from the box.

The same buttons on the 372 remote did work though. It was only after a bit of Googling that I realised that those buttons can be enabled by pressing the vol- & OK buttons together untill both the lights around the TakTalk button flash 4 times. They can be disabled again by pressing the vol+ & OK buttons.

When the buttons are disabled, only the green light on the right of the TalkTalk button lights when the vol buttons are pressed, & both lights (green & red) light up when enabled.
