What's the pros and cons of NowTV. Is it a good service? Simple to use etc.

I've only used it for the free stuff, iPlayer, ITV player, etc. The user interface is simple (we set it up for my Mum-in-law, she had no trouble). It's a rebadged US box, so the plain video output is US standard, you can't record it on, say, a DVD. The HDMI output isn't a problem.

As a way to get catchup TV for 9.99 it's simple and effective. I can't comment on the paid services.

Most pvrs these days so not record an analogue signal. Even standalone DVD recorder are getting hard to find. However most moderm TVs can play NTSC (aka never twice the same colour ).

Side load Plex on now TV box and you can serve videos, music, and many Plex channels from your pc. Now TV also has a channel called playto which will play a lot of stations (mostly rubbish but not all).

My DVD recorder (a cheap Bush) records NTSC as 480i no problem.

Yes you can, used a Panasonic E55, but it's composite and NTSC so not a good combination.

My fairly old Sony won't (but it does say that in the specs, so I can't complan!). There's obviously no technical issue, it's interesting to see that some do permit it, thanks.

I'm no Murdoch fanboy but I'm very impressed.
Extremely straightforward to set up. Seamless playback with my BT Infinity broadband.
The free stuff (including TuneIn Radio) works very well. I've stumped up for an entertainment pass, but with careful planning, this can be very reasonable for a selection of Sky channels (if you /want/ those particular channels).

I have the ents pass on a rolling sub, just about worth it, and definitely when Game of Thrones returns.
For movies I buy a pass every third month, this allows me to binge the movies I missed at the cinema for about £2 a film.
Sports as and when, the week pass is pretty reasonable, especially if there are some midweek Champions League.

I agree the rolling sub for the Ents pass is worth it. I did consider cancelling for a bit because so many US shows were on a break over the last few months, but was then offered £5 a month for 5 months so decided to keep it.

I got NowTV last year after being a Sky customer for years and realizing that I was basically paying Sky a fortune each month to watch freeview channels.

I switched to BT TV (HD for free, unlike Sky).

Apart from Stella and Grey's Anatomy, everything else I watched was on a free channel.

NowTV more than caters for my viewing requirements. I have a monthly Entertainment pass. Well worth it.
