I know that's the 'classic' but he made a lot of other songs equally as good. Check out 'The Anvil' especially, also 'Night Train', 'Visage', 'The Damned Don't Cry' and from a bit later in his career 'Love Glove' and 'Beat Boy' if you don't already know them, equally great stuff. RIP Steve, thanks for some great music and memories.

I was just talking on the thread about the KLF about how 80's artists weren't afraid to be different compared to many of today's acts and Steve Strange was certainly one of them. RIP .

That is where I first became aware of him. I thought he was very good and humorous on that. I offer condolences to his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Is that a reference to Steve's appearance in the David Bowie video by any chance?

I'm shocked at the news. Visage were definitely responsible for some fab songs. I've always loved songs such as 'Mind of a Toy', 'Fade to Grey' and 'Night Train'

RIP Steve Strange.

Really sad news. I saw it on Facebook from Paul Rutherford and really hoped it was another Twitter hoax.

Ha ha.... I see what you did there!

Fade to grey both the track and the vid were superb, and helped define the new romantic scene albeit at a commercial level. A sad loss.

Edit. I see its been mentioned (note to myself, read the rest of the thread before replying lol)

Truely sad news

Fade to Grey has be the finest 80's track made ... certainly opened my eyes to the New Romantics & laid the foundations for my love of electro music since

Still remember the Visage Tshirt I bought from Smash Hits & proudly wore when around 12 years ols

Absolutely gutted. He was, as they have all said today, the big chief in the New Romantics movement. Loved all the music, went to the Blitz Club in 1981 (no idea who was there), and that night was easily the best clubbing experience I've ever had. Amazingly they had tv screens on the walls showing videos of Ashes to Ashes and The Thin Wall by Ultravox amongst others. His music will live on though and wouldn't it be great if Fade To Grey charted again. The main cd I've been playing in my car the last couple of weeks is a New Romantic compilation with his face on the front.

it did.... ten years ago..... only it had been pinched and slightly, very slighty changed by kelly osbourne and passed off as her track 'one word'.

for me Fade To Grey encapsulates the 80s for me. I remember as a 16 year old seeing the video on TV and being mesmerised by it. Still one of my top tunes of all time. Thanks Mr Strange!
