Creating USB recovery drive for Linx 10 tablet
Mark_2011

I have just created a usb recovery drive for my Linx 10 tablet and I have a couple of questions.

Although it asked me to use an 8 gb usb drive for the process, I noticed that only about 2.5gb is used. Would I be able to use a 4gb usb drive for this or is the full 8 gb somehow used but it does not show up? It seems a waste to use a larger usb drive if it is not needed.

Also, at the end of the recovery drive creation, there was no option to delete the recovery partition on the SSD drive. Online guides I have read say there should be an option to do this. How can I delete the recovery partition?

If it uses Wimboot there is no recovery partition. http://blogs.windows.com/itpro/2014/...-boot-wimboot/. You can use a smaller USB stick if it lets you.

I am pretty sure there is a recovery partition as there was an option to copy the partition in the wizard which I selected and it displayed a message like "copying partition" on the screen during the process.

I tried using a 4gb drive and it would not let me do it. It seems it has to be 8gb or over. Bit of waste when so little of the drive is used. Now I just have to find out how to delete the recovery partition from the SSD.

If it's wimboot, it would be copying that file Windows is running from. They probably would not change the standard message that they are copying the 'partition'.

People have had problems deleting recovery partition to save space on Linx tablets. Strongly advise you leave alone. See

I could give a long explanation but simple short summary is that linx does not install all the 8.1 files from the installation/recovery drive to C drive as such, but extracts the ones it needs temporarily on the fly saving lots if space.

Upshot is if you delete recovery file, you lose OS!

So

1. Make sure you do have a backup recovery file. To boot from recovery USB or any bootable USB, press power on and volume up key at same time when tablet is off to get to tablet recovery mode. Works on Linx 8 and 10 but not on 7 which needs OS installed to get to recovery mode (obvious catch 22 if you have just deleted it so absolutely vital not to delete on L7!)

2. Advise you also install macrium reflect and make full backup. I have done this but not yet tested, but I know I can try this if all else fails.

So at top volume:- DO NOT DELETE RECOVERY PARTITION BUT DO BACK IT UP.

Also install touchmousepointer - a must have app that creates a virtual touchpad and makes desktop mode much easier to use.

Update if you create a macrium usb recovery USB, you will need to connect with a usb mouse and usb keyboard using a USB hub when using it to recover.

Don't worry, I have not deleted the recovery partition, I did not know how to do it anyway!

Maybe Microsoft removed the option to delete the partition on the SSD as it now contains system files?
