I have not eaten chocolate for years and for the first time since then i fancied a crunchy bar,and a kitkat on offer in our local coop for a pound..or 65 each..
after i took the first bite from both bars, the chocolate was tasteless and no taste in the kitkat, and very little in the crunchy bar.. is this what all chocolate bars are like now ??? tasteless thin chocolate..?

Pretty much. Nestle was never that great and Cadbury chocolate is shocking quality these days. There's a trend towards expensive fine chocolate recently, Hotel Chocolat probably being the best example.

Ever since Kraft brought Cadbury it's gone downhill so fast. For something nice but cheap, a few of Aldi's chocolates are not bad at all.

Dairy Milk tastes just waxy to me, but Flakes are still nice

I too have noticed that the chocolate tastes horrible. I love After 8 mints and they too seem to have suffered from the 'lets make the chocolate as uninteresting and un-chocolately as possible' treatment. Maybe it's a government ploy to make us eat less sugar/chocolate!

They've shrunk as well. In the old days if you bought a box of Dairy Milk you had to have them delivered on a palette.

I think Green & Blacks, Divine and some of the independent brands still taste good. G&B were taken over by Cadbury and then Kraft but they've kept it organic and fairtrade and don't seem to be tinkering apart from introducing the alternative thin Lindt-style bars. Agree it's a real shame that the Cadbury quality is going down so noticeably.

Try the Co-Op own brand version of After Eights. They are much nicer.

its all been ruined by takeovers and cheaper methods..rowntree mackintosh used to be great ..i loved the chocolates like orange and coffee creams ..now the ones nestle produce are bitter and nasty. plus the chocbars get ever smaller..i dont eat much now maybe some dark chocolate occasionally...im not being ripped off by quality or quantitiy any more

The cheaper branded stuff seems to taste more like sugar than chocolate nowadays.

The Dairy Milk has gone down the pan but some of the other Cadbury stuff like Flake and Twirl appear to have survived.

I had the new Cadbury Tiffin yesterday, and it was delicious. Been a long time since I was tempted by any of the newer Cadbury bars, and this one didn't disappoint.

The Kitkat "coffee and cream" flavoured bars are very nice, I think so anyway. But most chocolate is rather disappointing I agree.

I got my Cadbury Tiffin from Tesco's online groceries. None of the other online supermarkets had them available. Pretty expensive though... £1 for 53g!

They sound lovely, but a quick google and I can't find any mention. Do you mean the Kitkat cookies & cream, perhaps?

If you want to try a better quality chocolate, you can't go wrong with Green and Blacks..even though i hear they were taken over by Cadbury

I always go for Thorntons. Glad to hear the flake has survived the Kraft takeover. The rest that I've tasted were poor..

I'm sure it still tastes the same.

Just your memory playing tricks on you that it once tasted much better, and Wagon Wheels were the size of dinner plates, and it took two hands to hold a Mars Bar.
