Yes, I'm pleased it seems like BP is staying. She was really very good in her role in the first episode. Hope she stays for quite a while

I agree. He is totally self-serving and selfish, not to say pathetic: every one else including the viewers has invested a huge amount in his playing the role and believing him in it and he is letting them down - that is beneath his role in life as an actor, the show is supposed to go on. Personally I cringed at his idiotic comments about received pronunciation and the role of women in society - like a boring politically correct twelve year old. He came out with a lot of crap about the role and his career and at the first hurdle he exposes himself as self-interested and over-ambitious.
He says the series has had a strong reaction and he doesn't want to become typecast: what did he expect, that he was doing a one-off new character on BBC4? He was taking on something precious to many people, especially since it was part of their childhood, and treated them with disrespect. Surely he realised he should have been in it for the long haul, no matter what.
Unless, of course, he was sacked. Or the story is a wind-upto get me to write long posts.

What happened to his wish to be this generation of kid's Doctor Who? He isn't there long enough for them to get that attached to him now. I don't understand this decision at all.
Does anyone else think ths could ruin CEs career? It might sow he has no long term commitment to a project and turn people off "hiring" him for roles which require commitment. And while he had not contractual requirement to do more series, leaving after just one; shows he feels that he is much more important than anything he does and many people might also not like to hire him for that as many tv shows, films and plays are produced by people who put all their life and energy into creating them. If you have the option of an actor who appears to think the same as you or one who appears to think of themsleves as more important, which one would you choose?

Unfortunately they *do* need to start filming soon, especially if there's a Christmas ep, so holding back the announcement was difficult. Perhaps holding back the "2nd series is go" announcement would have been better; technically Chris didn't quit until there was a continuation to quit.
However, I wonder if the toy makers will sue. Didn't the Spice Girls have trouble when they became a fourpiece or something??? Who will buy a Chris Eccleston Doctor doll for their kids this Christmas, if on Christmas Day he's gonna regenerate into Casanaova Guy?

David Tennant would be a fantastic doctor! he was excellent in Casanova and I'm looking forward to seeing his evil side in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire later this year!

The BBC announced on Wednesday that it had commissioned the second Doctor Who series, which will again feature 13 episodes.

By doing this he has shown utter contept for all the investment the BBC has put into him and the series....let alone all the viewers who were enjoying the series and him being the new doctor.
Now everyone will be concentrating on who the new Doctor will be and not the quality of this current new series.

what a silly bugger! he could have made a name for himself as......the doctor (like pertwee..baker and so on) could have went on to other things.......but he takes the easy way out as you do chris!
This is so crazy, I just hope he never does well in anything else he does, as after Dr Who, I will not be watching anything he appears in, he is a disgrace. He should have at least made 3 series.

You know, this is the first time I've been rather damn annoyed at the future prospects of a TV show. That show of course being Dr Who and Eccleston deciding he's had enough after just one series.
I'm not even a huge fan of Dr Who, but after watching all of the clips of him talking to the press about how it's a great show and how he feels he can pull it off well etc, I actually felt that he was going to be really good for this show and its history and that we'd still be seeing Eccleston's Dr Who in two or three years time. But no, instead, he wraps it up after one series.
Personally, I find that an insult to every single viewer who watched Saturday night's episode and for having a little bit of faith in him.
I actually can't believe how annoyed I am at Mr Eccleston for doing this. You can't play around so lightly with a series such as this, when it means so much to fans new and old. Personally, I actually think he should at least appear to do the decent thing of apologising to the fans for not living up to their expectations and disappointing them, as they now know whatever happens, Dr Who - in this form - will not be back.
