AFAIK, David Tennant is a massive Who fan and has previously recorded a part for one of the Doctor Who audio adventures.

Enjoying him in Casanova and I think he'd make a great Doctor.

I'm very disappointed, and I think he has "shot himself in the foot" as he has lost millions of fans who will think twice before going to see him in a film or play!

You think Chris will be out of work now? He's one of the most in demand actors about these days, which is perhaps another reason why he feels as if he can throw this oppurtunity away so easily. Sadly.

After this series of Dr W has ended

Will we care???

YES !!!!

I will avoid watching ANY and ALL TV shows with this guy in it. Who does he think he is that he thinks he is more important than Dr Who???

I'm not at all suprised by this: CE was very evasive on the Mastermind special (lots of "umm, we'll see").

I don't really see that it is a dampner - the show is bigger than the actors. If the writing and casting is good, then it will survive.

I would add my vote for Tony Head (if David Tennant is too busy), although I suspect that a younger Doctor would hold the interest of newer fans.

As for the regeneration chestnut - I'm sure that RTD will come up with a plausible extension to the Doctor's lifespan.

The trouble is ... we have all watched the first episode but now ....

what is the point of getting involved and becoming to really love the idiosyncrasies of this new doc ....

there is no point ...

we have another 12 episdoes to sit watch ... and wait ... and watch ... and wait ...

etc etc etc ....

Why did he announce it now???? PATHETIC TIME WASTER

CE was indeed very evasive on Mastermind and did not look happy at all.
The show is far bigger than CE, lots of fans around the world will see to that.

CE has never regenerated so he can be not counted as a Dr if the BBC need too.

All very good points..

i dont think its about that.

i think he just feels his career is on the line if he continues with dr who, because he will find it very difficult to get work after his stint on dr who ends (if he'd carried on with it for a long time)

i do think it's a bit stupid really, considering HE was the one that demanded to be given the role. He chased THEM for the role. bloody ridiculous.

When I read the news article, I SERIOUSLY thought someone over at Digital Spy had put the April Fool's items up a day too early.

Hasn't anyone heard of the Post Reply button instead of the New Topic button?...?

Well, I mean, why do we need hundreds of threads on the same thing for?

The way I see it, it's one of the biggest stories around just now (In regards to TV land, that is) so in my view, the extra threads are justified because if everyone posted in the same one, everyone's opinions would get a bit lost, really.

But I digress - Christoper Eccleston, you fool!

Okay I see your point, but there are already at least two dedicated threads called "Doctor Who Quits" or whatever, so why do we need another one?

I don't think it's foolish that Christopher Eccleston is leaving. He will, like any other actor, move onto other things while the series contines to grow. His input was to help kick-start the series for which I'm glad.

Out of interest, how long did the other Doctors last before they left/were sacked?
