actually, Eccleston probably saw billie piper onscreen and her bloody awful acting and thought easier to get out now.

Give her a break, she was quite good.

she was awful.
her pseudo eastend accend was so forced it may have been made by playdoe. Her over reaction to everything just screams "stage school" .

Just heard the news, that Chris Ecclestone has quit after 1 series.

I thought he was quite good as the Doctor.

He says he doesn't want to get typecast.

I saw that on the BBC website - seems a bit strange, doesn't it? If you ask me he's now definately going to be stereotyped as one of those middling actors that played the role of Doctor Who, then bleated about being typecast. In years to come, people will say "I think I remember him, is he the same one as Colin Baker?".

I don't understand why several people are wanting David Tennant from Casanova.
He's been famous for what? 15 minutes.
And people want him to be Doctor Who because they like him in Casanova?

What other things have you seen him in?

To be honest, I'm less than inspired at David Tennant being the new Doctor Who. I'm sure they can have a look around first at other options first instead of just going for whatever is flavour of the month right now.

But I guess it's going to take a lot to impress me.
Right now I'm pissed off with Christopher Eccleston.

Al that bullshit about really wanting this role.
All this crap about wanting to be the Doctor Who for this generation of children.
What utter crap.
It looks to me like he just wanted to use the show to put on his CV because it's high profile television. Not because he particularly cared about the role, or who it would be entertaining for.
Sounds now like he was just a complete bullshit merchant.

Hmm, maybe the guy has signed a provisional contract to film an <anyfilm> feature with '24th century FOX!'...

But due to him quitting Dr. Who in 2005 and a flux in the space time continuum caused by auton-murdochsile satellites, the feature is not made and the Doctor becomes permanently trapped on the cote' d'azur in 2005.

It is a shame really cos I thought he was good, apparently, Billie Piper is staying, so at least she'll get to see a regeneration whilst she's the side kick.

Perhaps we could audition for the role of Ds.Who!

Me too! David Tennant would be fantastic as The Doctor.

Why David Tennant though?

Why? Why? Why?

There's loads of actors out there. Casanaova is flavour of the month. What else have you seen him do?

What I'd like to see is an actor who we know is capable of being versatile.
Or an unknown who we know nothing about.
Or someone who has played a character that might have a hint of a Doctor Whoish kind of thing about them.

All I've seen David Tennant in is Casanova, and as good as he is in it, he just doesn't scream out "Doctor Who" at me in any shape or form.

Well I'm going to avoid any programme or film he is in from now on.

Am guessing the BBC wouldn't pay him enough?

I can just imagine him playing Doctor Who. He's quirky and has a great way of delivering lines. THAT'S WHY.

he does fit the part though.... he's got the look and the charm, and in casanova he had the whit, intellect and charisma that would translate into an excellent Dr. Who... certainly alot of that can be put down to the brilliant writing - but both shows are written by the same guy and it's evident from Casanova that they both work very well together!

I get what you mean about flavour of the month, but to be honest, if Tennant played Dr. Who in exactly the same way he played Casanova, I'd be extrememly happy!

Actually David Tennant reminds me of Robert Carlisle a bit.
He looks like a younger version of him, he sounds the same, and some of his mannerisms are similar too.

So why not Robert Carlisle?
(If we're just going to grab the first actor that springs to mind)

Don't know about the look, and I'm sure many, many actors can do charm, wit, intellect, and charisma. That may be good for Casanova, but Doctor Who is an entirely different character.
I don't know if it's because people on this thread think it would be good to see David play Doctor Who with the same kind of personality as Casanova or not.
I'm not sure if that's the case, whether it would be a good thing or not.

The only thing that gives me a tiny bit of reassurance is that Russell T Davies has worked with him.
But whatever, I hope this isn't going to be rushed choice.

He was excellent in Blackpool, a dark brooding character, played with menace, not at all like his Casanova portrayal. Mind you, he did get to bonk the leading lady in that as well

I missed Blackpool.

I'm just trying to get the image I have of him playing Casanova out of my mind.

I think this is often why Doctor Who is played by a relative unknown. So we don't associate him with other characters the actor has played.

I hope that if he gets the role he doesn't disappoint. But I have to say, I'm not keen on his look. He just doesn't seem right. Hopefully I will get used to him if I have to.

Excellent point . The only real disaster (and I'll probably get shot down in flames for this) was Wurzel Gummidge aka Pertwee. It was downhill from there

Quite.

First, Russell T Davies' mate Christopher Eccleston gets the job. Then, the BBC are 'in talks' with, er, Russell T Davies' mate David Tennant to get the job. It smacks of nepotism to me. Whatever happened to auditions?

Very disappointed by the news. I thought CE had all the makings of a great Doctor and, as others have said, it's put a real dampener on the show for me.

An overpriced, under-performing film is predicted to be placed into the corporate mix then. (unless it's one of Spielberg's of course!)

All that bullshit about him really wanting this role.
And how he really wanted to be THE Doctor Who for a new generation of children.
All those press interviews he gave.

All crap.

It just looked like a good high profile show to put on his CV.
So much for wanting to do it for a generation of children by saying he wanted to be THEIR Doctor.
