Accessing facebook/internet on smartphone outside of the house??
Right I feel so embarrassed asking this as a nearly 24 yr old. Basically long story short I have cerebral palsy and didn't know I would be able to use a smartphone til end of last year. my sister gave me her old phone and im still figuring it all out
im trying to work out how I access facebook and internet outside of the house. The frustrating thing is on my way to Glasgow today I was playing around, managed to do it, put it back then forgot how I did it lol [I have shortterm memory problems] Can anyone tell me how you do it? Is it the 'data roaming' thing'??? Thanks |

If you have an Android phone, you need to ensure 'mobile data' is on, via the notification panel. There will be a similar option, on iPhones. You should also have a mobile internet data plan of some kind, to cover your mobile data costs when accessing FB / browsing or downloading when out and about (off WiFi).
Don't forget, when you are outside of the house eg., in town / shopping etc, you can connect to free WiFi hotspots, where available, so as to avoid increasing your mobile data usage and costs. Hope you enjoy using your new phone. |

If you could tell us which phone you have, we could help you in more detail.

And don't feel embarrassed either.
None if this stuff is straightforward. Ask away and we'll all do our best to help. As Lucan says though, specific model would enable one of us to give you proper instructions. |

I think he's sorted it now.
John, let us know how it goes. Remember just turning on data won't do it. You need to be paying for data as well on your plan. This will show up on your bill as Data - 250MB or 500MB or 1GB and so on depending on how much you pay for. Very often (but not always) if data is switched off by default it means you aren't paying for any although most networks won't let you use it anyway in this case. Just to clarify what others are saying...... Apple phones run their own in house iOS operating system. Other phones like HTC, Samsung or Motorola run Google's Android operating system. If Apple ever started putting Android on their phones I think Steve Jobs would not only turn in his grave but probably spring out of the ground and relentlessly haunt every single Google employee until they stopped!! Hahaha |
