Unblock US
I've seen unblock US mentioned on here a lot and have looked on their website, but still don't really understand what they are and what they do? Are they kosher??

Unblock-Us is a DNS/VPN service which allows you to access geo locked websites from other countries.
A lot of people use it mainly for accessing other Netflix regions. There's plenty of other video streaming sites/players to have access to, just take a look at their supported sites. Myself at the moment I use it for Netflix, The CW, WatchABC, FoxNow. I have used it for WWE Network before too. People in other countries use it for accessing the likes BBCiPlayer etc. If you look at their support pages it tells you all you need to know about who they are and what they offer. www.unblock-us.com |

Is there anywhere to see what content US netflix has that the UK doesn't? Been thinking about getting unblockus but there's already so much on the UK version I haven't seen yet, so the shows on the US would need to be pretty amazing to make me want to watch them before my UK backlog.

Netflix UK v US titles A -J Netflix UK v US titles J - Z Also the other regions are worth checking out as they have a lot of stuff not on US or UK. I think it's a no brainer for anyone with Netflix not to get these DNS services. I use adfreetimne and its only £1.18 a month!

As it turns out there are a lot of ads. Thought it was bad in the uk. ![]() Some info from them about their ad blocking service: Quote:
If you use our DNS server in your router, your entire network will be Ad-free time enabled! Not just for ad blocking, but also for region unlock. So whenever you use your home internet, you enjoy ad free internet. Regardless of what device you’re using! Set it up once, and forget about it! Quote:
We not only filter advertisements, but also most known malware sites (sites known to be harmful to your computer). On top of that, we also filter most marketing research sites that track users. These sites track users to generate a taste profile which they use to show you personalized ads. Using our service, you don’t have to worry about being tracked by those sites. Our advertising, malware and tracking lists are updated daily, no need to worry about staying up to date – you’re always automatically up to date! Quote:
I’m still seeing ads on Hulu, why?
Note that we don’t block Hulu ads because they detect ad blocking and will display a 60 second message telling you to turn off ad blocking. |

Not sure Matt, doubt it though to be honest - I think its main use is blocking website ads rather than ads played during an actual show. My main use for adfreetime is just switching regions via my PS3 so I'm not best qualified to answer you.

Either go to unblock-us site, select My Account and setup payment (monthly or a year) or remove DNS settings from device if you no longer wish to continue using the service.
You should recieve an email detailing your options. |

Being new to this, how do the overcome the location services on an iPad as I would like to use my iPad whilst travelling but SkyGo and BT Sports apps both employ the iPads location services as well as checking country of IP address so you need to spoof where the device is as well.

I've used AdFreeTime for quite a while. I've never had to use their support, but equally the service has always worked well for me.

Just to add to this, and back to Unblock-Us, I have to say that I found recently that it lets you connect to more foreign subscription websites (subscriptions paid, of course) than some of the most well-known standard VPN services. I suspect that many VPN services have either their entire IP address ranges blocked, or can be identified as VPNs, and are blocked because of that.
The Unblock-Us DNS server model seems to be harder for sites to block than standard VPN providers, and 'normal' sites that are not geo-blocking, performance seems to be unaffected. It's a useful service with clear instructions for use, and I do like the fact that they only ask for an email address to join the trial and in fact, encourage you to take the one week trial before subscribing. Those are some of the signs of a setup with good customer service. But of course, Unblock-Us is not a standard VPN service and it does much less than they do, but is very good at what it does do and is sold for. |
