I'm already judging everyone for keeping Ross
and Robert ![]() in this long, watch them be the top two now. Nicola, Cain and Victoria are the only ones left I like so hope the top three. As for David, I completely agree with you Reserved, and not only is he pathetic but he's one those characters that act like a nice guy but have a really nasty streak whenever people do something he doesn't like, or don't don't act in the way he thinks they should. He was like that to Leyla, and towards Priya at times. Paddy is similar with the way he treated Rhona. |

They're not - but I think Charity, Debbie and Val are marmite characters - they provoke strong reactions. Victoria and Alicia are sort of all-round likeable, so they win out in polls like this. I hate to say it, but I don't actually rate Victoria that much now.
She's OK. But it's like choosing vanilla over mint choc chip. |

49 [49] Lisa Dingle - 8.58% Round 1 Ranking History (15-16-49-49) Lisa sticks at 49. Lisa's had a lot of stick off DS lately. I'm not sure why, she hasn't changed much (if at all) as far as I can tell, so I'm baffled at her lack of support. Sometimes I like Lisa, then other times she gets right on my nerves, but I've always felt that way about her. I guess the fact she had the rape storyline helped her populairty in 2012 and 2013 and with the exception of that storyline, she's always been unpopular? I don't know - enlighten me, please, as it's the ol' "chicken or the egg" question, for me. Quote:
39 [31] Bob Hope - 9.97% Round 1 Ranking History (24-15-31-39) Bob's another one to receive his worst ranking to date! With Carly coming back, we should start seeing more of Bob rather than just his normal, bog standard scenes of serving people in cafe. Hopefully, he'll get some decent stuff to get his teeth into. ![]() Quote:
37 [29] Belle Dingle - 10.24% Round 1 Being barking as done her no favRanking History (28-41-29-37) Belle drops down the rankings, and like Rhona, just misses out on a place in round two! I think this is a very disappointing result considering the year Belle's had. I suppose characters that have a big year are bound to pick up more detractors, though. Fantastic actress and I'm glad to see her mental health storyline running for a relatively lengthy (realistic) time. oursQuote:
33 [56] Ashley Thomas - 6.45% Round 2
Ranking History (37-18-56-33) Ashley rockets up the rankings after being in a tough heat last year. Ashley's had a good year; he's back to being the Vicar, and he's started a new relationship with Harriet. Things are looking up for him after the dreadful time he had under Stuart Blackburn. Quote:
31 [34] Andy Sugden - 6.69% Round 2 No redeeming featuresRanking History (41-24-34-31) Andy takes a small climb but is still the first Sugden casualty. It's been a big year for Andy, Robert returned, he got married to Katie and then she went and died! Despite the big storylines, it's not really helped him all that much, considering last year he barely featured yet still managed a ranking of 34. I just don't think Andy will ever be a likeable or interesting character, which is unfortunate given his ties to the show. Quote:
26 [NE] Lawrence White - 6.91% Round 2
Ranking History (X-X-X-26) Lawrence debuts in an impressive 26th place! I don't know how I feel about Lawrence. I really liked him when he first came into the show but since his heart attack and accepting Robert, it all seems a bit contrived. Suddenly accepting him just as Robert embarks on an affair... Such a cliche. It's small things like this that wind me up and I tend to disregard characters once they start being ridiculous. Quote:
21 [23] Bernice Blackstock - 8.13% Round 2
Ranking History (X-40-23-21) Bernice climbs the rankings but not nearly enough! Bernice is a fantastic character and I was really shocked and disappointed to see her leave at this stage - I thought she'd make it to round three and she deserved to! A climb is a climb though and it proves she's winning more and more people over every year ![]() Quote:
19 [08] Val Pollard - 8.25% Round 2 HIVileRanking History (11-04-08-19) The shock exits just keep coming. Val falls 11 places and receives her worst ranking to date. Really disappointed to see Val out so early; a character that can do drama and comedy. She offers a lot to the show and has some great relationships. Wish we had more Diane and Val scenes, though. Quote:
16 [11] Diane Sugden - 9.10% Round 3
Ranking History (08-13-11-16) Diane falls five places and receives her worst ranking to date. Diane's another funny one that I love or hate depending on the situation she's in. That's not a bad thing, I think it's great that Emmerdale don't write scripts so black and white. Sometimes Diane is in the wrong, other times she's perfectly right in what she's saying, but that's what makes such good characters - we all have flaws and to put characters in different situations where they show all sides of their personality is something Emmerdale does well. I find the other soaps seem a bit 'good vs. bad' with their characters. Despite this being Diane's worst ranking, it's still a brilliant one, and well deserved. Quote:
14 [04] Jimmy King - 10.06% Round 3
Ranking History (14-03-04-14) Another shock exit! Jimmy falls ten places and finds himself back where he was four years ago! Jimmy's the last King standing as Tom, Matthew, Carl and Max have all died on screen over the past 11 years. Sister Scarlett was lucky to get out alive! Emmerdale struck gold by putting Jimmy and Nicola together and their characters success is, I suspect, majorly down to their relationship.13 [27] Finn Barton - 10.18% Round 3 Ranking History (X-X-27-13) Finn climbs 14 places and just misses out on a place in round four! Finn started off on shaky ground with me; I wasn't keen at all, but he's really come into his own in the past year or so. I really enjoy the relationships he has with Victoria, Val, Eric and Ross. I'm glad Aaron didn't want him, and I hope it stays that way once Robert leaves (if he leaves). I don't want Finn being ruined by that miserable sod. [/quote] Don't know what to make of him. Quote:
11 [12] David Metcalfe - 6.94% Round 4 WimpRanking History (01-11-12-11) Ugh, this moron climbs back up the rankings. How? Why? He was heading in the right direction until now. What's worse though is he actually won it one time! I just don't understand the appeal of this character. The way he has no backbone whatsoever and comes running back to Alicia telling her he never put X straight, then he finds himself in a 'comedy' situation later on when X confronts him and he's seen worming his way out of being direct. It's not funny, it's not cute, it's absolutely bloody pathetic. So infuriating!!!
Quote:
09 [20] Kerry Wyatt - 8.52% - 361 points
Ranking History (X-32-20-09) Kerry continues to rise in the rankings. I'm really surprised at how well Kerry's done. After seeing the likes of Val and Bernice eliminated in round two, I thought Kerry would be out by round three since she's a character of the same mould, but she's managed to pull through each round and land herself a place in the big finale! Well deserved ![]() ![]() Quote:
08 [03] Charity Dingle - 9.51% - 403 points
Ranking History (02-09-03-08) So annoyed, upset, angry, bitter and hateful towards DS right now. When will this amazingly, brilliant, fantastic, wonderful, gorgeous character win this damn competition?! THE BEST CHARACTER OF SOAP. Fantastic actress, too. Charity adds so much to Emmerdale for me and it really wouldn't be the same without her. I'm gutted that we've lost her for a year, but at least it's not a permanent exit. One of only three characters to make the final every year, so I guess you all sort of redeem yourselves a little bit, but not much ( ![]() Quote:

No predictions but how the 'effing heck are Victoria and Alicia better characters than Charity, Debbie and Val???
![]() ![]() Victoria though, while she is a nice character she doesn't actually do much but neither does Val despite say a couple nasty things to prompt a laugh. Charity's deviance has got boring to watch. I think she was lucky to get 8th! Debbie can be ruthless and harsh when she needs to be but she's shown to have actual feelings which make her an actual character and she should have rated higher than Charity. |

All depends what people look for in a character. They could easily come up with good storylines for nice characters if they wanted, hence Alicia's upcoming storyline. A character doesn't have to be hateful or a criminal to provide decent drama.

07 [09] Alicia Metcalfe - 9.63% - 408 points
Ranking History (16-07-09-07) Alicia climbs two places and hits her peak position once again. Alicia is a really good character played by a decent actress, but I'm not sure whether the David relationship works. I enjoyed her a lot more whilst David was with Priya and she was up at Home Farm, but at the same time, I feel she has more potential with David - does that make sense? Either way, Alicia's proving to be a solid, consistent character that DS clearly loves. |

06 [05] Victoria Sugden - 10.01% - 424 points
Ranking History (31-21-05-06) Victoria finally takes a drop down the rankings as she falls one place, but still an incredibly ranking. I adore Victoria, but I really don't like that she's back with Adam. I don't mind him or their relationship, but it seems a bit 'been there, done that, both at a loose end, let's repeat it' sort of thing. I think she can do much better. We'll see, but I don't hold out much hope of their relationship setting our screens alight... |

Well I hope Nicola wins, she's the only character with some decency left.
I don't understand how Robert is this high. |

THE FINAL FIVE:
Nicola King Cain Dingle Ross Barton Aaron Livesy Robert Sugden Nicola remains top female for three years running, only being beaten by Charity back in 2012. The big question is, can she beat off the boys and win it all over again? |

Very good points. I actually agree (apart from Fabulous Charity getting boring.) I like Alicia and Victoria and would love for them to have big, interesting story lines but until they do I don't think they deserve such high placings (hopefully this new story line for Alicia will be great.) For example I don't like Aaron or Robert but I totally see what good characters they are and why people have ranked them so highly

Nicola the only woman in the top five! Really shocked Charity isn't there. But also shows how lacking the show is in really strong female characters at the moment. Sort it out, Emmerdale.

05 [01] Nicola King - 10.27% - 435 points
Ranking History (03-01-01-05) Nicola gets her worst ranking to date - and no, I didn't keep a straight face as I typed that! It's absurd that I said that, actually. Let's face it, the only way was down for Nicola but her rankings are still astonishing. Two wins, three top three places and four out of four top five placings. Amazing. Proves what a gem of a character Emmerdale has with her and hopefully the actress sticks with the show for a long time to come. I would imagine Nicola would be (secretly) delighted to know that she's ranked better than Jimmy every time, but I'm not sure she'd show it; she's more likely to snap back something like, "of course I'm better than him! We all know that!" With Nicola (and David) out of the competition, we're guaranteed a new winner, but who will it be? |
