Wow 2nd down to 13th! Gutted for Sienna! Hope the producers sort it out before Anna Passey walks as they can't afford to lose another good one! Happy to see Celine debut high! Best of the recent influx of newbies by a mile!

I don't watch the show anymore but jeez it just goes to show what a sorry state it's in when those are the top ten. Crikey.

Plus if you don't watch now, how can you say that it's a bad top 10 as the characters develop etc - I mean look at Nancy - from great year, to awful year

Ok so let's kick off this top 10....

Just to note to say in the final round the last vote by Jesus of Suburbia was out of time and therefore was not counted.

10 [14] = Esther Bloom = 220pts
(Ranking History = X-19-06-14-10)
Esther takes a 4 place climb and back into the top 10; she has always been a popular character and her peak coming during the bullying storyline which resulted in her attempting suicide. Since then she had a pretty much quiet time of it; apart from her relationship with Tilly and the psycho and Hollyoaks Later. However later in 2014 saw Esther strike up an unlikely friendship with Grace. This this then turned into Esther being a surrogate so Grace and Trevor could have a baby together. It’s an unlikely friendship, however as both are different it completely works. Esther isn’t possibly the most exciting of characters, however when she is given the storyline she completely works as a character, it’s just a shame that she is often overlooked in favour of the who are the Blake’s going to kidnap next type of storylines.

The fact that Esther has done so well despite having minimal scenes is a testament to the actress.

09 [15] = Jack Osborne = 238pts
(Ranking History = 17-18-23-15-09)
Jack surges up the rankings this year, entering the top 10 for the first time and gaining an all-time highest position for the character. It’s been a good year all round for the Osborne clan (barring Nancy), with Tom, Jack and Frankie all gaining all time highest positions, Esther climbing back into the top 10 and Darren still to place. Jack is one of Hollyoaks veteran characters and it’s good to see him still being popular after all these years. Over the years Jack has faked his own death, had heart attacks, married Frankie and been one of the voices of reason at a pretty insane time for the show. More recently we’ve seen Jack struggle with Frankie’s affair, him being unable to get it up and subsequently hiring a prostitute (Sinead) to try and sort it out. I think Jack’s a great character and hopefully 2015 will seen more Osborne centric plots.

08 [42] = Robbie Roscoe = 239pts
(Ranking History = X-X-X-42-08)
Robbie takes a massive surge up the rankings this year and into the top 10, I think therefore showing that the show has managed to redeem him from the homophobic/ racist bully that the show first presented him as. Personally I think that it was silly to make him so extreme one way to then have him now as a nice bloke who goes out of his way to help people. Still Charlie Wernham is a good, capable actor and therefore saddling him with storylines continually revolving around revenge was slightly limiting. However thankfully he has had somewhat of a character transplant and in the place of the homophobic bully we have someone with a sense of humour and actually with some depth. I’m guessing there must be some form of relationship with Nancy on the cards which seems to have been bubbling away for ages, but I guess it goes to show that you can redeem any character over time.

07 [41] = Grace Black = 246pts
(Ranking History = X-X-X-41-07)
Grace also sees a surge up the rankings this year and matches Robbie’s 34 place climb to become the joint biggest climbers. Like Robbie, Grace has undergone a slight revision over the last year; that being that she has shown some form of personality other than dreary hard faced cow. The whole baby/ Esther storyline and also the arrival of Dylan has kind of shaken up the Grace/ Trevor dynamic seemingly for the better. Her popularity seemed to take a few by surprise; she won the majority of the groups she was in and does fairly well here in the final. We know that Grace has a major hand in Mercedes disappearance and with Esther surrogating for her we know that 2015 will be another big year for Grace so it will be interesting to see how she holds up next year.

06 [10] = Maxine Minniver = 250pts
(Ranking History = X-X-15-10-06)
Following the trend, Maxine surges up the rankings once again and reaches an all-time high position, just outside the top 5. When Maxine first entered the show, she was pretty much Mitzeee mark 2, however over the years she has come into her own as a character… or should I say as a victim. Over the last year we’ve seen Maxine go through a pretty horrific domestic abuse plot with Patrick, this has subsequently devolved into a storyline of who can kidnap Maxine the most. The storyline I thought was played really well and the reveal of the bruises etc at the wedding was a great moment… it’s just a shame that things didn’t come to an end there, instead Patrick keeps getting away with things and that’s one of the main problems with the show – not being able to end a storyline naturally when it should. Still I’m sure Maxine will feature heavily in 2015, now with a baby, however still with Patrick and Sienna hanging over her.

05 [08] = John Paul McQueen = 257pts
(Ranking History = X-X-13-08-05)
John Paul climbs 3 places and to an all-time highest position since his return to the show (I believe many years ago when Thagazboi did this, John Paul won… but I think that was at the height of the McDean stuff). When the 2014 rankings started, the whole rape storyline had just begun, subsequently Finn was finally sent down for the assault and JP has gone on to marry Ste. The rape storyline I don’t think was handled brilliantly to be honest; yes JP did get justice with Finn being sent to jail, however I just didn’t think the journey that got there was great or sensitive enough given the subject matter. More recently JP has had more issues with his students; what with having a cheeky snog with Tony’s son who is then revealed to be one his students. No doubt with Ste’s HIV storyline and the fallout from the kiss still to come 2015 will be a JP Packed year.

04 [26] = Dirk Savage = 271pts
(Ranking History = X-50-35-26-04)
Dirk continues to make massive climbs up the rankings, this year climbing 22 places into the top 5 and to highest position to date. It’s not difficult to see why Dirk is this high; in the sea of utter madness that Hollyoaks has descended into, he is one of the few reliable and likeable characters on the show. What’s also helped is the fact that year on year he is given more and more to do and put into the Holly/ Cindy dynamic he works really well. Also you’ve got to love a character who stood back and watched Will die, not giving him any help. For the character it was a bit of a turning point, but I’m sure what’s left of the Hollyoaks viewership punched a first in the air of relief that Will was finally gone. 2015 will be a big year for Dirk; whilst Dodger and Will have gone there seems to be plenty of life in Dirk as a character and hopefully Hollyoaks use him more. Also to note 4 years ago, Dirk was the lowest ranked character; so just goes to show what happens when you use your characters well and involve them in plots.

03 [06] = Darren Osborne = 299pts
(Ranking History = 04-04-05-06-03)
As with everyone in the top 10, barring Esther so far, Darren climbs up the rankings to an all-time high position and enters the top 3 for the first time. Previously he was stuck behind the strong-hold of Jacqui, Brendan and Mitzee before he dropped a bIt during the Sienna storyline/ aftermath. To be honest the character is a bit of a dick and over the years we’ve seen Darren mess it up time and time again. However most of the time he is fairly likeable and is usually redeemable. It’s a shame that the Nancy/ Darren relationship has hit the rocks so hard as together they are a great duo. However what with Nancy’s drug addiction and Darren being Darren things don’t seem to be getting back on an even keel for a while. I’m sure though that Darren will get his fair share of big storylines in 2015, as one of the mainstays of the show would be good to see him used more. Darren takes the bronze medal this year and finishes 5 points away from 2nd place and 17 away from the winner’s spot, so the top 3 was close in the end.

Which means it's between Cindy and Dodger and one of them will be crowned your winner.

Cindy climbs up the rankings to the runner up slot this year, to her highest position to date and finishes just 12 points away from the top spot. In the run up to the final, both Cindy and Dodger topped all their respective groups so it did seem as though it was going to be between the two characters from the off. Cindy has had a bit of a year; after finally getting together with Dirk, she was then committed due to her bi-polar and seeing previous dead lover Rhys Ashworth. Despite a long, unhinged time in hospital, Cindy was eventually released and went back to Dirk, Holly and baby Hilton. The character has been in and out of the show for many, many years and it’s good to see the character still popular and challenging for the win. I really like the Dirk/ Cindy pairing as it is unusual and they bring out different things in each other. Hopefully 2015 will see more Cindy centric storylines as she continues to be popular.

Which means the Winner of the 2015 Favourite Hollyoaks Character is...

01 [05] = Dodger Savage = 316pts

Which means recently departed character Dodger takes a 4 place climb up the rankings to become DS’ Favourite Hollyoaks Character 2015!!!! Over the years Dodger has grown from village bicycle who continually got his kit off (now Ziggy), to a likeable, sane character and one of the few sane people in the savage family/ the show. The character had spent the majority of his last few months in the show shackled to a radiator at the hands of evil twin sister Sienna. Then his evil step-brother escaped from prison, whilst his evil father held his lover hostage. Anyway Dodger’s exit was a masterpiece in everything that’s currently wrong with Hollyoaks – massive gaping plot holes, excessive kidnappings and over-sensationalised nonsense. Dodger becomes the 4th different character to win following Nancy, Jacqui and two times winner Brendan to the top of the pile. Weather Dodger returns or not is another matter, however it seems that 2016 will bring us yet more changes at the top. Will Dodger return to try and retain the title? Will Cindy go one better? Will we see a character take a massive climb? Or will a new comer come out on top? For now anyway, the DS Favourite Hollyoaks Character 2015 is Dodger Savage!!!
