However, if they stick to a worldwide release date, they can concentrate on the UK first - promoting in April, early May. During this period of time the song might get some recognition on US radio, since it takes some time to build up hype.
But Leona hasn't had a radio hit since a long time, so I am not sure, if US radio will spin the song.”
Nope. It was a more staggered release and was released in the US a good couple months before the UK. Still will never forget when it peaked at #11 on US iTunes and was so close to #10 before falling.
In terms of releasing the album - this is to do with the new global release friday thing lots of music labels/people have agreed upon. It makes sense to delay for a little due to this in order to promote the singles/album in more countries so I don't blame the label/team - it's just unfortunate the global album release date came about this year.
Anyway, that doesn't mean there's going to be a delay for the singles or the showcase. I mean Leona's still rehearsing, so it's still on. It shouldn't affect the release of the singles too much either. We're still likely getting the lead single premiering this month in the UK - they'll just likely have to push the single over a few more weeks across the world in order to get the lead single out/promoted for the album release - as before they may have been thinking about a staggered album release.
To be honest, a release everywhere at the same time is best. It'll stop leaks and will get people talking about it/buzz around Leona everywhere. Hopefully it'll do decently.
In regards to US radio playing Leona - if the song is good (which it certainly sounds) and they have radio promotion etc lined up, I see no reason why not. US radio is a lot more diverse now than it was a few years ago with many different genres being played. Including ballads!
