This was a "girls favourite" and sounded best on a cheap Dansette Major record player.

My favourite was You Dont Own Me.

All the blokes use to sing the one line 'Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone!'

You don't own me is a proto feminist anthem classic. She made a sexy Catwoman in Batman too. She came out as a lesbian 10 years ago.

She certainly had a good voice, no "auto-tune" in those days.

But much like other girls of eighteen, considering the way she was dressed in that video, "she looked going on thirty-two."

I know her song "It's my party" well. RIP.

Correction. She was Catwoman's sidekick.

I thought it was longer than that? She wrote an incredible song for the film 'Grace of My Heart', in which Bridget Fonda played the small role of a character based on Lesley Gore herself - A young pop starlet in the 60's hiding her true sexuality. That was made in 1996, so it must have been common knowledge then?
Here's the song, My Secret Love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VDCf4YFuZzg

Oh, and 'Maybe I Know' is one of the best 60s Girl Pop songs of all time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuSvvIXgXmM

R.I.P. She recorded many more songs than people think including the brilliant "Immortality" from 1975. If anyone deserved immortality, she did.
She was a victim of the 60s British invasion of the US along with Neil Sedaka so between about 1966/75 she seemed to vanish and her 70s albums along with her. It took 30 years for her next album "Ever Since" to appear. Makes Kate Bush look like a beginner.

Your right about the 60's British Invasion that was a shame because she had real talent. I do remember this thanks for reminding it wasn't a hit though was it?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gKZ0xxTKYs

Alas no, both her mid-70s albums tanked. Still a knockout song though.

I heard on a radio programme sometime back now that her record producer Quincy Jones & Lesley went through a lot of songs for her first record & they settled on the last one they came across It's My Party & the rest is history! I wonder if there will be a programme about her? There has been little in the media about her passing here

Only in two episodes though but I take your point.

If I'm honest I thought she'd died a few years ago

Crikey, I did not know she had died until just now. Here's a cracking gutsy live performance of You Don't Own Me.

She's so beautiful too. Love the hair and make up!
