Since you don't mention what TV you have it is impossible to be specific as no-one knows what connectors it has.

There are two options, based on the fact the Surface tablet has a mini display-port socket on it. Either a display-port to VGA adapter plus VGA to VGA lead or a display-port to HDMI adapter and HDMI to HDMI lead.

If the TV has neither VGA or HDMI sockets then there probably is no way to connect it.

But as I say, without knowing what TV you have it is impossible to be specific.

Or something wireless maybe like a Chromecast? (Assuming the telly has a spare HDMI port)

A good wireless solution assuming you have WiFi is to buy a now TV box and install Plex on it (guides on web) and install on PC as well.

Now TV box has HDMI output and composite/av output for older TVs (can buy a composite to scart connector if TV does not have composite/av sockets. Would also need a composite cable that connects to now tv jack socket which you can buy from sky nowtv site).

Windows 8.1 supports the wireless Miracast, if your TV has it.

if you want to use a cable you can use mini-displayport to HDMI.

As above, it would be best if we knew what TV you have.

Regrettably, if you have upgraded from W8 to W8.1, then miracast is not available unless PC manufacturer issues appropriate updates. Will waiting for Sony

Actually just had a thought - W10 should have native miracast support?

The OP has a Microsoft Surface, so surely it should work.

I assume by your reply MS Surface came with 8,1 installed (not 8).

My Sony laptop was a W8 and been upgraded to 8.1, but no miracast support as a result,

I will load W10 and see if that has it built in - I'll revert.

PS - I see posts from you at 3 in the morning - do you never sleep?

W10 does have a feature in there to connect to wireless display. Not yet tried it personally. So no idea how well it works.

What make and model of TV is it? Not seen many (if any) TVs with HDMI on the front, sides or rear usually.

Bit unusual to have HDMI on the front, but not inconceivable. Anyway if there is a free HDMI port then the easy way to connect the tablet is a mini displayport to HDMI adapter + HDMI lead or a mini displayport to HDMI lead.

Take your pick...
