New iPad for 2015??
James30

It looks like Apple might try to turn around dropping iPad sales later this year with this.....

http://www.itpro.co.uk/tablets/23484...ours-and-specs

I'd buy one and ditch the laptop if the specs turn out to be reality.

It's all rumours at the moment, but could be good competition for Microsoft Surface.

Just being bigger doesn't make it a Surface competitor. The surface is a full blown laptop that happens to be in the form factor of a large tablet. And happens to be physically way better designed than anything from Apple (which really was a surprise).

The iPad is, at the end of the day, just a toy. And making it bigger just makes it a bigger toy ....

Edit : whilst they say it may be running "OS/X Yosemite", it may run it, but it won't be able to run everything that runs on a regular Mac. Wrong processor. And there is no way that any ARM chip can emulate an x86 at an acceptable speed.

A 'big toy' with much better software than Microsoft.

You see an awful lot of these toys in a bussiness environment being used for bussiness type things...

You mean the OS itself or the applications available? Both are debatable, and I think the majority view would likely be that you're wrong.

Not for serious work, you don't. You see them being used by middle management with fluffy job titles, who actually do nothing useful. That is said partly in jest, as at work we seem to have a lot of those people around who carry iPads and have nonsensical job titles ....

You won't see an iPad being used for serious software development. Spreadsheet work and wordprocessing, whilst possible, is utterly hateful without a full keyboard. You won't see them running a typical presentation, as connection to your average projector just isn't possible on an iPad.

That's not true (BiB), use a cable http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD...D35c8%252B43dd or as I do, an ATV and Airplay. At a push I could even use the wireless app that came with my InFocus projector, but it's not as good as the ATV method.

You can use a full Keyboard via Bluetooth. I've seen business people use iPads.

Not true, we met a branding agency yesterday and they gave a presentation connected from an iPad, no problems at all.

I agree with you about word processing and spreadsheets though but I can't do that well on android tablets either.

Yes, we likely see fluffy reality TV presentations from a tablet too. A keyboard gets in the way of the TV camera.

Who in their right mind would have an iPad for convenience when super cheap Windows tablets exist that actually function how businesses want them to?

Its the same with schools, how can you expect work to be written when that very low maintenance Chromebook covers so much ground.

The term LoungePad maybe better describes the fluffy limited iPad. Apple can only grab consumer support if they stay as they are, other people have their own needs.

aren't they updating the macbook air range soon? That's an iPad killer for business.
I barely use my ipad now other than for apps. It crashes constantly in general use, either on Chrome or Safari.
Presume they'll stubbornly stick to 1GB RAM. Most fervent users of iPads that I know are small children

I doubt it, the current ipad has 2GB.

Oh yes, Apple OSX if that is what they will use is far better than Windows. The only problem with Apple is that they are over priced.

I presume Apple may be realising that the Tablet market is starting to shrink, pretty quickly considering that Tablets have not really been around that long.

I must admit I was looking at a Apple M<ac before i updated my machine, but it mean buying new software and my software is not cheap, now is Apple.

The 2014 iPad Air is 2GB.

However with most apps recently being 32bit Apples stipulation that all updates have to be 64bit, the extra memory bloat certainly wont help the 1GB 64 bit models at all.
