I can’t quite believe it. It’s been ten whole years since I posted a very disorganised thread on Digital Spy asking users to name their favourite EastEnders character. A decade later, and after a considerable gap, I’m here again asking the same question….No, don’t worry, we’re not repeating the whole tournament again. This time, I thought it only fitting to sum up the past decade and decide on which of the 200-strong cast from the past ten years can claim the ultimate title.
First, we must say farewell to Bertypop, who, after five magnificent years has decided the time is right to stand down as host. His are big shoes to fill, but fortunately, I’ve worn them in – there again it has been five years since I crowned Christian your winner and got in my metaphorical taxi out of here, so I may be a little rusty.
For this series, the 17th overall, we’re going to be voting on every regular character (and some significant others) who appeared in any form since Your Favourite EastEnders Character began on 4th March 2005. That’s a lot – we’ve got everyone from Mick Carter to Adi Ferreira, from Tyler Moon to Chrissie Watts - our very first runner-up - and with so many, we’ll have to be brutal, though I’m sure that’ll be no problem for DS! In each and every round, more than half the contenders will be eliminated.
So let’s get to work, and please support, promote, tell the whole community (talking to you, episode thread regulars!), we need all the votes we can get!
