Not sure if this recent change has done this as do not use it often on freeview.”

I can't see any real difference between the response times on the SD and HD channels. As ever, it's usually quick but occasionally freezes for a few seconds. On the rare ocassions I have had to use it on a Sky box it has been extremely slow to the point of being virtually unusable; maybe modern Sky boxes are better.

Now on the Rosneath site (6 MUX). Can't remember if I last checked 24 or 48 hours ago

IMO they should bring back the Press Red prompts for a while to notify people that the service is there. They should timeout after, say, 15 seconds of course.

Was spotted on Tacolneston yesterday PM (on AVForums and I can confirm it is there on the expected HD channels today.

No timetable of rollout on the BBC blog either.

Only once they are happy that it is working as expected everywhere. Bit risky to be advertising a "new" service that turns out to be broken on one manufacturer's 2013 models or somesuch.

A good way of looking at things, although having said that, there were few if any issues when there was a restricted Red Button service during the 2012 Olympics, so assuming that things have not changed, there should be no problems with TVs now..

Maybe a week or two of caution, just to see if any reports of faults come back. But you'd hope there would be no surprises, the MHEG code on our Freeview HD devices is already interpreting the (same?) MHEG on BBCA - and as you say we've seen MHEG on HD services before. But you never know, bugs are sneaky little things....

I agree, and it only takes one very small change that the designers deem insignificant to cause something to fall over.

The Press Red prompts did appear on the first day, that's how I found it.

The red prompts are still showing up for me.
It does tend to take a minute or so after changing channel for them to appear.

I expect this would be useful for sporting events like the Olympics and Wimbledon if you can get it.

It doesn't affect that, the red button "channel" remains on 601 as before (in 544*576 sub-SD) and is linked from the Red Button on the HD channels in the same way as on the SD channels. Extra streams may well be added in SD and/or HD during major events, but that is unrelated to the appearance of the Red Button text service on the HD channels.

It's confusing that the BBC calls two completely different things "Red Button" - maybe I should have added the word "text" in the original post.

They should have transferred the Ceefax brand to digital. I'm serious.

They could have just called the red button text service ceefax digital!

I agree, they probably thought it sounded too old-school. What is also annoying is that they started the process of numbering pages but never finished it so it is now incomplete and probably rarely used. Sorry, all a bit off-topic for this thread.

I got this on my Youview box via Sandy Heath this morning. Slow to get going but a nice interface.
