Could it be Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins)?
She didn't really die.
Cindy junior knew and has been sending the messages. She returned and ended up in a fight with Lucy. She returns in the live segment on Thursday, filmed scenes in the flashback episode and appears in the fully live episode on Friday before departing that episode (either by actually dying or disappearing). Michelle Collins could be sworn to secrecy and the whole cast wouldn't even know! |

Personally a fake Cindy death over a fake Kathy death would be much more realistic and something I could buy more.

Right now, they could bring back her or Cathy and I would totally buy into it. I know it's pretty implausible for either to make an appearance, but the dark, dramatic undertone we have this week, would just about lend itself to one of them walking back into Ian's life, and if well written, it could actually be pretty awesome!
I'd be on the end of my seat screaming 'no wayyyyyyy' at the TV, and that's what a good drama should do to you. I welcome Cindy or Cathy with open arms, I'm finding EE, exciting and totally unmissable at the moment, and I am an ED fan first and foremost! |

Cindy's secret identical twin sister Stella, who was adopted at birth, reveals her existence and suddenly wants to get to know her nieces and nephews.
She manages to find out who killed Lucy within five minutes of arriving in Walford and temporarily commandeers the vic to take the entire cast through the back before revealing all. |

As dead as Kathy. She "died" off screen. Michelle Collins could have filmed scenes for the flashback episode when she did the filming for the Children in Need "ghosts" sketch recently. |

I think most of the characters that have died off screen could be considered to be alive (unless the actor is dead as well ofc).

And whilst I do not see it happening also very easy to explain her faked death and therefore more believable.
At least with Kathy - which I am still very sceptical about - there was an unusual element to her off-screen death, and Ian never saw a body. Cindy died in childbirth, in prison (IIRC) and so the idea of it being faked just doesn't hold up. Still, I guess if people want to believe something enough then they'll just believe it. |
