Not sure if anyone has seen this:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-run-over.html

and the petition with further details:

http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/62490

In a nutshell:

"Road workers are no longer obliged to check the collar or microchip of a dog that has been run over – and bodies can be disposed of without worried families being informed.

But MPs and campaigners, appalled by the heartless policy change, are demanding action to ensure animal-lovers are not needlessly left in the dark when a much-loved pet goes missing."

Far more info at the above links.

This forthcoming rule change is so incredibly and utterly heartless - pets are members of the family to many owners and not knowing their pets fate (if run over for example) is awful.

This forthcoming rule change seems to be penny pinching at an incredibly petty level - I'm sure that most pet owners would be more than happy to pay a few Pounds to cover any minor admin costs that would be involved in simply scanning a pet's remains (or looking at a collar) and notify the owners. It's not difficult or particularly time consuming.

Please sign the petition above - maybe we can do something to get this decision reversed.

Thank you.

I have already signed it seems crazy to me to change the law so we have to microchip then say they won't be checking for microchips.
I have never lost a dog myself but I think it could happen to anyone so have happily signed it.

It's the ideology of those in government to reduce the size of government, so things like this have to go.

Maybe a private firm will take over notifications in future? Pet goes missing, a fee to a private firm who will check a database to see if the animal is listed as being found dead.

I mean, it always seems to be the way it's done these days.

Iggy it might be a good idea to post it in GD too, many people don't visit pet forum but would think this a stupid idea and would sign.
