Buying first Kindle - help please
PERILLA

Hi - I'm considering buying myself a Kindle and wonder if anyone can give me any advice on which is the best one to get. I'll be using it mostly for reading at night so will need one with a back light. Also, do they work straight out of the box? Thanks very much in advance.

The Paperwhite is backlit. If you only want to read on it, that's probably the best option. The kindlefires are tablets so will play music, run apps etc, but are a bit harder on the eyes for reading. If you buy from Amazon it works straight out of the box. If you buy from elsewhere it's fairly easy to register it to your account.

If you have a smart phone you can always download the Kindle app.

The best kindle on the market right now is the kindle voyage. It's backlit and has a higher resolution screen than the paper white.

For comparison of PW and V'ger
See

I am more than happy with basic PW as are many thousands. Not sure V'ger is worth extra £60 or so.
Also PW has longer battery life.
As kindles get more powerful, battery life seems to be reducing.

Thanks so much for your replies. On your recommendations I think I might go for the PW.

Thanks again.
