We recently bought a new Lg smart tv in December. We set it all up fine and it was connecting to the internet work easel fine. We had YouTube and iplayer on all the time. The tv has since done an update and will not connect to the internet wirelessly.

I have reset the tv and restarted the router and it still won't connect.

We also have a BT Youview box that is connected to the internet and the tv, therefore we can still access netflix and iplayer on the youview box.

My phone still connects to the witless fine.

When I go to the settings it will display a list of the available networks and I can select mine, enter the password and it will tick it etc. But when I go to the smart section and click on YouTube it says lg network disconnected or something like that.

Can anyone help?

Is it possible to connect an ethernet cable between TV and router, even if only temporary for testing?

If so try that. If it can connect to YouTube or iPlayer etc using the cable connection then that does suggest a WiFi issue.

Usually on my LG telly if it has forgotten the network connection for whatever reason and I try and connect with iPlayer or whatever a message pops up to say the network is not configured. It then offers to go to the Network Connection wizard to re-make the connection.

I've also had it where it connects to some services but not others purely at random. You come out of the Smart function then go back in and all is fine. No obvious reason why it does this.

Oh I could try but the wifi box is in another room and I don't think I would have an Ethernet cable long enough. Earlier I tried iplayer and it said "connection is unstable"

I am hoping there isn't an issue with my wireless bit of the telly. If it's picking up the network and allowing me to enter a password etc then it must be recognising it over some sort of connection. Thank you for your help.

This could be wireless interference or an authentication issue. After that then it could be some other issue with the TV's wireless functionality or with the TV's internet feature. .

I'd echo chrisjr's suggestion of using a long Ethernet cable. Or just simply move the TV to the room where the router is as a temporary test. Eliminate as much as possible so you know what you're dealing with. The TV doesn't need an aerial connection to test Ethernet. It just needs power and a network cable connection. It might also be an idea to reboot the router (power off, power on) just so to clear any hiccups.

Once you have established that a direct cable connection works then you know that a TV firmware update hasn't messed up the smart features. Next, with the TV close to the router, disconnect the Ethernet cable and switch to using wireless. With the TV and router in such close proximity then any sources of wireless interference will have a harder time of preventing a connection.

At this point you should be able to establish a wireless connection and enter the wireless password. If authentication fails then either the password is incorrect or the TV needs a lower level of wireless security than the router is currently using.

Once you establish a good connection and can use the smart functions then you can try moving the TV back to the main viewing room. At this point then any failure to connect will most likely be interference from other wireless devices. Try using fixed channels on the router.

Doesn't the Youview box connect by Ethernet cable, I didn't think any had Wifi
