Galaxy S5: "Unfortunately contacts have stopped" message....
Paul M C

Hi all

I noticed the other day, after recently upgrading to Lollipop, I keep (randomly) getting a pop up message in a grey box that reads "Unfortunately contacts have stopped".

I click "ok" to clear this, but it doesn't seem to have stopped my contacts. The dialler and contacts work fine. I have checked under 'Application Manager' settings immediately after receiving this pop up and contacts and contacts storage is not disabled or stopped at all.

I have tried to 'Google' this but have not no clear answer. Some say try clearing the cache on the contacts. (Done that, no different). Some say try clearing the partition cache in case something is conflicting with a previous installation (no difference after this) and finally I have factory re-set the phone - still no difference.

The only thing I did start to get the impression of, is that it is happening to other some other makes of android phones as well as the S5 and this message seems to be happening for some others on the S5 around the same time it started for me - last week...

Does anyone reading this have this issue? It's not particularly problematic (and extremely random - no idea when the pop up is coming or what triggers it) - as I say, not particularly troublesome as it doesn't seem to stop contacts from working - it's just simply annoying!

Wondered if it has anything to do with the Lollipop update? It seemed to be fine before this....

The only other things I have done on my phone, just prior to this happening was to:-

1) Sign up and start using 'Evernote'
2) Installed CCleaner *
3) Installed Malwarebytes.

* I have un-installed CCleaner for now as it does say that it can modify your contacts etc...(but I doubt if this is the real cause)

Cheers for any advice!

Hi Paul,

I think it is definitely Lollipop related. I get the same message as you for contacts.

I have done a full factory reset as i normally do after a major update

Also random apps including Mobdro, tripadvisor gave a warning that they have stopped.

Before on Kit Kat my phone was near perfect and i'm kinda kicking myself for updating until all the bugs have been ironed out.

On the plus side my battery life is really good

Awaiting bug fix update but sorely tempted to go back to Kit Kat in the meantime

Thanks Alex - re-assuring to know it's not just me or my phone then!

I was thinking about going back to Kit-Kat but don't know how you would do this? I kind of did some reading up on it, but it seemed quite a complex task!

Been happening to mine too since a few days after the upgrade. I've not installed any new apps since the upgrade and it's been happening,
However, my boyfriend's S5 hasn't been doing this, and he upgraded to Lollipop a few days after I did.

Similar thing was happening to me on my Note 4, I don't know if its a fault of Google or Samsung. In responce I downgraded back to the more stable KitKat till Lollipop matures somewhat on my device.

Apologies dragging up an old thread but is anyone having problems sending texts on Three since this update and this contacts problem? My texts are taking a good 30-60 seconds to send, and the other day the phone told me that the messages had failed when in fact they hadn't!. I've re-starting the phone (as I rarely turn it off) but they're slow to send. The thing is, my boyfriend also has an S5, also on Three but he doesn't have the text problem!

I had a slight messaging problem but not that, mine refused to send texts, I had to clear the app cache and disable re-enable

There was a rather large bug fix update a few weeks back that restored silent mode however Contacts has stopped working issue was still present.
There is now a second update rolling out for the sim free SM-G00F

Hope this update is the bees knees

As posted, mine's Three branded and not SIM-free but hopefully this will fix it.
