Google reports that 5.1 supports (High Definition voice calling is now on your mobile phone) VoLTE on compatible phones, but which ones?
http://officialandroid.blogspot.co.u...-lollipop.html I only found this out when calling my wife's Moto G (both on the Three network) and wondering why it sounded so much better than most cell phone calls and then finding out it supported HD Voice, this was back on Jellybean. Seems to be a great feature no one ever hears about. |

It needs a 3G signal and both phones on the same network - which is the main gotcha. |

Main problem is its not cross network. In the USA its also very very new. In the UK, EE started first, Three was second, and Vodafone launched it most recently. O2 still have no comment.

Just a quick FYI; Motorola Update Services (version 4.0) updated on my XT1039 (1st gen Moto G 4G/LTE) today. Maybe Lollipop to follow soon?
Just need Three to get 4G coverage round here.

My motog 4g has just had a update to the Motorola update services.
It says I should accept it as its needed to install lollipop. So just have to wait now. But seems things are being prepared for something. But still no idea of a timescale. |

O2 did comment, but you couldn't make out what was being said.

![]() On the radio this morning the DJ was trying hard talking to a caller with a poor mobile signal, and given its a london area show, I was laughing to myself assuming the caller was on O2 and on a 2G signal. |

"Not cross network", not on 2G.
Not very common then and full of the usual semi-myths. Anyone know why O2 beats EE for urban call quality ? There must be some logical reasoning behind that, this time Ofcom paying Rootmetrics for data to publish correctly. |

I can't remember the company, but it wasn't Rootmetrics that in mid 2014 published that over 90% of the time in London the O2 voice quality was the worst, and they use HALF RATE codec on 2G to squeeze in more calls. There must be some logical reasoning behind that, this time Ofcom paying Rootmetrics for data to publish correctly. Anyone reporting O2 has good quality calls MUST be testing their 3G network. |

There's a post on GSMArena that a Motorola phone will be updated directly with Android 5.1 Lollipop, so maybe the 1st Gen G 4G will too.

I bought a moto g 4g a month or so ago and noticed its running kit kat. It says that my software is up to date. Has anyone else managed to update to lollipop?

I think Motorola has paused the rollout of 5.0.2 on some models still to get Lollipop and is working to restart on 5.1 shortly.

I've got the Moto G 1st Gen, Moto G 2nd Gen, Moto G 4G 2nd Gen, Moto E and Moto E 4G. All but the original Moto E now have 5.0.2.
I don't have the 4G version of the 1st Gen, but assume that is like the Moto E where there's been a pause. I also assume that all the others will get 5.1 fairly soon, which is probably a good thing. The battery seems noticeably worse on the Moto G that I use as my primary voice phone. |

Battery life is definitely not as good as 4.4.4 on my Moto g 2014 on 5.0.2. Hoping it's addressed in 5.1

Doesn't seem so. It is on the 3G one though. See above for reason.
