Hi Everyone

Last Saturday night I had a power cut of about 20 mins. On Sunday I found that thru my Humax Foxsat-HDR box many channels gave 'no signal'. I have had powercuts before with no problem so this may be a red herring.

I have tried: switching the box off overnight, resetting to factory defaults, retuning channels using autotune. Don't know what else to try.

I have 3 other TVs in the house all using the same aerial and the others are not affected.

The missing channels include: BBC 2 HD (but not SD), ITV, BBC 3 HD, ITV+1, ITV2 (but not ITV2+1), ITV3, ITV3+1, ITV4 + many more.

Can anyone help?

You say BBC2/ 3HD are missing, what about BBC1 HD, ITV HD and C4 HD? Do you get those or are they missing as well? If they are not then that would be odd as they are all on the same mux and it is more usual to lose all channels on a mux rather than a random sample.

Do you have a TV on the same aerial point as the Humax, if that does Freeview does it get all the channels or the same few as the Humax? If it only gets the same as the Humax then that points to an aerial system fault. If it gets all channels, including those the Humax doesn't get, then that indicates a Humax problem.

You could also try the Humax on one of the aerial points where the TVs do receive all channels to see if it can tune in all channels there.

How is the aerial feed split to all the rooms? Is there a powered distribution amplifier somewhere? If so is it still powered? It could be that the amplifier has died and just enough signal is leaking through to keep the other rooms happy (ish) but not enough to keep the Humax happy. Especially if the Humax is on the end of the longest cable run from the amplifier.

Oh and a note for the future. If you still have channels listed in the EPG but can't pick them up for some reason DO NOT retune! Check out everything else first, aerial, cabling any splitters and amplifiers first. A retune should be the LAST thing you do when every other possible cause has been eliminated. Just makes it harder to diagnose faults elsewhere in the chain and to tell if tweaking something fixes the problem.

Now that is a very good question. Though the line where she says there are 3 TVs on the same aerial does make you wonder. Must admit I read it as Fox HDR and missed the "sat"

Thanks for your comprehensive reply. I have checked what HD channels I cannot/can get: I cannot get BBC1HD, ITV1HD, C4HD, BBCThreeHD, but can BBC1WaHD, BBC1NIHD BBCFourHD. (This is not a complete list)

I don't have another TV on the same aerial point. My house was built with TV aerial points in each room wired directly from a mains powered amplifier. Only a single feed from the aerial to the amplifier (as far as I can see). The Humax box is a long way away from the amplifier but not as far as one other TV operating normally via a normal aerial. How can I check if the amplifier is working?

I will try contecting the Humax box to another TV but I will need another aerial lead. The Humax box has a screw lead and the other TV aerials just push in. I will let you know the outcome.

OK. You actually have a satellite receiver not a terrestrial TV receiver. Therefore everything I posted is completely and totally irrelevant. This should be posted in the Satellite forum in the Freesat section

Basically you've posted in the wrong place and the details in your first post confused me into thinking you were talking about the HDR Fox-T2 Freeview recorder not the Foxsat HDR satellite recorder.

Your Humax is not connected to the same aerial as any of the TVs. It is connected to a satellite dish. This means the advice you need to solve the problem is completely different.

Oh and if you do try and plug the Humax into a TV aerial point it won't get anything.

Test 1:
I have tried both aerial leads, that usually feed the Humax box, directly into the TV (one at a time of course), normally fed by the Humax box, and I can receive all channels from both leads.

Test 2:
I have also tried connecting the Humax box in another room via another aerial to another TV but so far have not been able to come up with any signal from the aerial. I have tried it two ways: connecting via a HDMI lead as I normally use but all I got was a blank green screen; I then tried with a Scart lead and was able to get the menu but no signal detected.

From my first test I suspect the Humax box. From my second test I suspect that the aerial lead converter, from push to screw, is not working properly.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Sorry for any confusion caused. This is my first use of the service.

As chris said, OP says it's connected to the same aerial.
But if it is satellite a power surge could render the tuner or LNB faulty.
Borrow any other satellite receiver and connect in turn to each of the LNB cables that feeds the Foxsat, checking reception of the various channels. this will determine if the lnb or foxsat is at fault. It's quite possible that the foxsat psu is damaged and cannot output the lnb switching voltage, rendering "half" of channels unreceivable.
