Well done to DTC making a “GOOD” decision and righting a wrong by bringing back Kathy Beale/Mitchell/etc to the square. It is understandable why he wanted to perform it live in the 30th anniversary week; any attempt at secret filming in advance would never have been kept quiet for more than a few days. The main problem with reintroducing Kath in this manner is that we will have to wait six weeks+ to have freshly filmed scenes with Gillian in the square integrated into the schedules due to the standard transmission delays. Though I hope they will find a way to still have her appear with selected characters away from the Walford, until then and pray they give a plausible explanation surrounding Kath’s original death and absence, (we are all deserve that). Shame on all those responsible for her premature death in the first place!!

Bobby Beale with his minimal spoken lines all year; is a joke of a culprit and ridiculous way to run a storyline and bring about a BAD conclusion to a 10 month story.

Back in 2008, the Max hit and run by 14/15 year old Lauren was a definite point in my viewing history when I lost faith in EE. Up until then I had watched it live (as I still tend to watch Corrie and ‘dale), but that badly written storyline resulted in me taking it less seriously and deciding to only watch the omnibus editions online; (as a born and breed East Londoner, I couldn’t bring myself to giving up completely on EE). This habit changed in the last four weeks with the oncoming 30th year shows.

With soaps, I don’t expect Colombo/CSI quality mysteries, but I do expect a reasonable amount of realism, not just because 10 year old’s tend not to be responsible for their adult sisters deaths, but certainly because normal parents do not dump (lay to rest/ hide/abandon) their other children’s bodies in the woods for any Tom, Dick and “Fox” to discover and abuse. Why Jane didn’t just leave the front door open to give the impression Lucy may have been attacked by an intruder (after Bobby hit her), thereby leaving her body in the dignified safety of her own home (say in the kitchen) we will never know. Jane is now spoilt as a character for me.

With Posh Peter now leaving, Lucy dead, Bobby turned “accidental” killer, Steven (already turned psycho) and Cindy Jr not actually a Beale, we are deprived a young Beale character for the foreseeable future.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The UGLY that’s easy. I just wish the powers were taken away from executive producers (in all soaps) from killing off long standing characters (of more than 5 years), without a genuine business reason to do so. This tactic, just seems so lazy, gives the character a poor send off when in many cases and a little time they may still have had a lot to add to the show.

I am sure as a producer it must be frustrating if an actor refuses to return when you want them to, but surely there are other options that don’t deprive the viewer and actor from a future return. Not to mention restricting the shows future EP’s from the option of being able to reintroduce the character without having to literally raise the dead, (as performed yesterday).

I am not suggesting the action taken by KH in 2006 in killing of Kath was ugly, she wasn’t the first EP to take this drastic action Though I am definitely saying the power given to EP’s to dispense with a character regardless of their popularity or long term effect on a soap is ugly.

Only time will tell if this frustrated fan will return to my recent tradition of relegating EE to omnibus additions, as a means of getting my EE fix!!

Kathy's return certainly sounds like a permanent or certainly long term appointment, if the reports are correct, so that certainly good!

Regarding your bad and ugly part, I suppose I am more annoyed with the killing of cast members than Bobby being made a killer. He probably doesn't realize he killed her and that's why Jane moved the body rather than fake an intruder like you suggested. There is no way Bobby will feel guilty if Jane said Lucy went for a walk to clear her head.

Whereas killing off screen is just wrong. DTC has rescued Kath, but we wont get back Cindy, Angie, Pete and Mark. Next thing you know some plonker Exec producer will kill off Ricky, Michelle or Simon rather than recast or wait for the actors make an appearance.
