Thank you for this forum.
We have decided to leave Sky. Our only issue is who else provides a decent History channel? We enjoy David Starkey, Lucy Worsley and Dan Cruickshank.
Thank you for your help.

Hope this helps. Channels still behind a pay wall but cheaper.

Freeview has the Yesterday channel plus there are some history programmes to be found on Quest, BBC4, BBC2, Channel 4 and More 4. BT and TalkTalk's paid-for Youview services might offer some more channel choice and they'll probably be cheaper than Sky.

As there is hardly any history programming on History you'll find most of the other stuff like storage wars etc is also on Dave. If it's proper history programmes you want and don't want to subscribe to sky then your only real options like others have said is virgin, talk talk or BT. Talk tak and Virgin carry the most factual channels but only BT and Virgin carry them in HD I brlieve.

I agree about History with Sky anyhow - they used to have 'real' history now it's been really dumbed down. Yesterday does have some proper History. Don't know why Sky went down the route they did and expect you to pay top dollar for it?!

It's not Sky but the History Channel itself which has decided to move away from History, in favour of programmes about auctions, pawn shops, aliens etc.
