and within the same post there is this...

With that in mind - any ideas?

Someone said something with HDMI in,
but my pc doesn't support HDMI out? ::confused”

it doesn't sound like they are clear to me. obviously your opinion varies from mine

It's not.”

in your opinion, which varies from mine

They have a CD player, they want to get the best out of their CD's and digital music and vinyl in the future, still going to suggest HDMI surround sound amps are the best way to go?”

I will still suggest hdmi amps. however if the OP only wants a stereo setup consisting of amp, speakers and a standard cd player I would suggest the second hand market as bargains can be had. likewise if they want to add a turntable

if buying new, then I'd suggest an hdmi amp and a bluray player which can both play cds and other optical forms, and stream media

two very different suggestions which the OP can pick from, or opt to avoid

“

We've said all along the OP is not looking for surround sound and Bluray, you have been the one arguing the toss it might be something the OP is looking for, clearly it is not, now you have the facts maybe you can put a little more thought into your suggestions more in line to what is being asked.”

wrong. at no point in time have I said the OP may be looking for surround sound. I've also pointed out at least once before than an hdmi amp can play both stereo and surround sound

it's ultimately up to the OP to choose what they would prefer

Anyway, later is coming, and I need a player.

I went to richer sounds in norwich today and spoke to someone who was pretty helpful, but I wanted to throw his advice out there, in the hope that someone was in a similar place to me recently, and can give me some good advice.

The following set up is slightly above budget, but i would get it if it was generally considered the best option....

Record player - ProJect Debut Carbon £325
Cambridge sr10 amp £220 (built in pre amp)
Cambridge audio sx60 £150

So in theory, if I were willing I drop £700 on a complete record plYer system....What would you guys recommend?

I need a complete system, and I'm hoping for audiophile quality...

Thanks in advance,

Matilda”

I'm sure you'll get some very helpful suggestions from the knowledgeable folk out there on what makes and models to consider, so all I will add is: try to find a dealer that will, ideally, let you try the chosen system or component in your home surroundings before committing, if this is not possible do try to hear it in the dealers studio, using a sample of your own records. Happy listening.
