Try a Mozart in Italian. It's a bit lighter, more fun as it were. But not an ENO production, they sing it in English, and it doesn't rhyme any more

I think the Producers with Nathan Lane is the only musical I've ever wanted to see. The last one I saw live was Spamalot, and even that was torture for me.

I'm with Stoatie, I love opera though I'm not quite sure why. And all the performances I've seen have had subtitles in the theatre, so understanding isn't really an issue.

Parade has the best songs.

Rocky Horror is the most fun.

Hmm, no Mozart, but Scottish Opera's doing Il Trovatore this year, might be worth a go!

Sister Act was brilliant as well on stage and I went into it with fairly low expectations. Wicked lived up to the hype.

It might well be. Give it a go, what's the worst that can happen? It's not even expensive, and that's London prices.

None of that high brow la-di-da Rogers and Hammerstein and Tim Rice malarkey.
Mine are:-

Rocky Horror Show
Grease
Can't Stop The Music (found the CD soundtrack on import. Who gives a **** about the critics when it's one of those films you can just switch your brain off, get a few cans of lager, and just sit back, relax and watch?)

^^^
Why aren't the songs:-
Time Warp
Can't Stop The Music
Samantha
Greased Lightning

available on the proverbial THE ONLY 1970s MUSIC YOU'LL NEED/]THE ULTIMATE 70S NIGHT style CD compilations?
Some of the more 'obscure' (as in deliberately ignored by the people who make the compilations) titles on my music collections deserve to be included.

Nobody mentioned West Side Story ...... the pinnacle that all others dismally fail to reach.

Yes, got a mention back in Post #5.

My modern favourites are Chicago and Riverdance but I also enjoyed Call Me Madam which I saw back in the early 1950s when I was a youngster (I have the music even now).

Yeah, the prices look OK, even compared to musicals.

Think I'm weird? You should see the film version of TOMMY. THAT's weird!

I love West Side Story but I was disappointed when I saw it on the stage.

I'm not sure I'd call Riverdance a musical. I don't consider Midnight Tango one either.

I once saw it on the stage from a seat in the gods, so during the big romantic Tonight scene on the balcony, all we could see was the actors' feet.

(Which actually raised the entertainment value for me, I hate West Side Story, but still )

South Pacific, King and I, Oklahoma and Carousel pretty much do it for me. Also most early Sondheim musicals and just about anything from 60s Broadway, Sweet Charity and Fiddler on the Roof especially.

Of the more recent ones my favourite is Cry Baby with Johnny Depp as the eponymous Cry Baby Walker.....which is a Romeo and Juliet story set in 1950s Baltimore with rock n roll & doo wop music
