There's always a market for harshness - cruelty if you will - and of course a "shock" factor. However, much we may want people to only be nice, to have not a single potential for anything nasty anywhere in them, the reality would appear to be very different if you look at the state the world is in.
The more attention that is given to Katie H in regard to being "shocked or appalled" by what she says the more she is empowered to say it.
There have been comedians from far back in history onwards, being cruel, mocking, shocking people with concepts and ideas - it's the dark part of humour which has always existed. The fact is Katie H hasn't a comedian's talent but she has a talent for grabbing attention, be it negative or positive. As an individual Katie H is insignificant - what's significant is the negative (more than the positive) attention she gets that powers the media machine around her.
