My just out of warranty Humax HDR1000S needed a reformat a while back as it would not pause live TV.

Ever since then it has not been the most reliable. Having had a 9200T for ever I know it isn't perfect in the recording zone. I tend to back up with the BT TV box these days anyway. Wish I had dealt with it but been too busy.

I looked tonight for something to watch and it tells me I have none and I have used less than 1% of the space. When I try to look at the recordings it says to connect a hard drive to record.

So it seems it can't see my drive.

I did a systems default but no change.

I suppose it raises a few questions:
Any suggestions?
Do I need a new hard drive?
If so what do I buy?
Is there any likelihood Humax will help me 3 months after my 2 yrs ran out?

I can't see a screen to format it as it can't see it (the hard drive). Not dropped/moved it either.

Cheers

Have you tried powering off the unit at the mains for 15 Minutes. It's very easy to change the HDD if it's had it. It's worth trying to reseat the hard drive connectors first (The case screws are under the stick on feet).

As per Graham's advice, worth unplugging all the drive cables and reseating. I would of expected some form of error code reported if the drive was faulty.

But If you do need to replace the drive just take the manufactuer and model details of the drive itself and then have a look on component suppliers sites on-line. You are pretty safe with choosing a drive from the same model series though others may be able to recommend other makes/models known to work in the Humax,

I have a 2GB WD AV-GP drive in mine. (The original drive was a Seagate pIpeline). Unfortunately it's not possible to transfer existing recordings to new drive.

Sorry for the delay in an update guys, but thanks for your advice.

The hard drive with the recordings appeared again after I turned it off and on a few times. Lost a bit of confidence in the box though as there have been so many failed recordings too.

The hard drive then disappeared again a week later and reappeared again - same old same old.

Last week we gave up as it wouldn't even turn on. When I had a minute I unplugged it and waited a short while. When it was powered up again it seemed to work fine again.

Back to recording again.

Maybe I should open it up and check the HD connections just to be sure.

Would love to get confidence in the box again as BT Box is OK but not my thing really.

Cheers again
