I have always fancied trying scallops.

I am going to get a bag from a supermarket, but what would I have with them?

I had some two nights ago with some prawns in a risotto - lovely.
If they're big just have three or four with a salad.
Black pudding or chorizo is also a favourite partner of scallops.
Little bit of creamy mash with parsley.

They are smallish ones, so I have decided to have them with creamy mash, crispy bacon strips, sage, black pepper, butter and lemon.

It's a Jamie Oliver recipe.

I do a dollop of pea puree, a disc of fried black pudding, put the cooked scallop on top and then finish with some crumbled crisp bacon. 3 of those make a lovely starter.

I just hope I like them. I want to eat more seafood rather than meat.

I like fish but have never tried anything else. I couldn't bring myself to try squid or octopus, but I am open to trying most other types of seafood.

Lightly fry with some prawns - stir in some Philadelphia and chilli flakes and serve with linguine.

Try making a fish pie.
I made it last week.

Sainsbury's do a frozen pack of salmon, cod and smoked pollock - £3.50 for about 350 grams. You'll get a good meal for two from that.
Lovely comfort food

My local chippy do 8 scallops for £1.50. Lovely with lashings of salt and vinegar.

A lightly spiced and thin curry sauce. You don't want to overpower them.

I like them like this or in a risotto too.

Otherwise I like them with prawns, onion and mushrooms in a creamy white wine or sherry sauce, with some nice crusty bread to dip into.

Well, I had them yesterday and I found that the bacon overpowered them, so I cannot say much about the taste of them.

I will try them again but next time I will get some better quality ones from my local fishmonger.

Out of curiosity how did you cook them and for how long?
Did you cook the scallops and bacon together?

Bacon bits first in olive oil, then the scallops with the bacon pushed to one side with sage as per a Jamie Oliver recipe.

Just fried the scallops for a few minutes literally.

500ml of fish stock, 500ml of white white, big pinch of saffron.

Boil fiercely till it has reduced to 1/3 or even a 1/4 of it's volume.

Turn down, add butter (50g but I'n guessing) and double cream (you know, a good long glug ) , then pop in the small scallops for a couple of minutes.

(or cut up scallops if large)

Serve over linguine with some fresh basil leaves.

Ummmm...

(Rick Stein recipe and one of my wife's favourites)
