What has happened to BT owned Plusnet TV?
Last year for many months there was talk of PlusNet getting into TV with there own Youview boxes and channels line up, BUT I have not seen any real news to if testing is still going along of if with costs and that sister company big spending has stop dead any new TV platform from them ?
It's sad as it would help the UK public in giving a choice to have Freeview/pay for view ( Youview ) with different types of companies and push others to bring better services. So is there any news ? |

I have Plusnet as my ISP, and a retail Humax Youview box. Last spring, their full line up of channels appeared on my box (although just blank channels) for an afternoon. They soon disappeared, but it was clear that the testing was taking place.
Since then, you're right. Nothing. I suspect they've crunched the numbers and realised that they can't compete with TalkTalk or BT, even if it's just a rebadged BT service. |

I noticed and clicked on it by accident, so easy to do. but I have no interest in it at all. should be a double click not one click.

Good news for customers of PlusNet in that the news over year ago that company is to bring TV services has now one step closer in details given above postings.
This should give a better deal for all that wish to have extra TV channels on top of Freeview growing EPG even if PlusNet is a BT sister company as it's not just prices and number of services , customer services is important too. Hope to see news that they have channels up and boxes ready soon. |

Hope to see news that they have channels up and boxes ready soon. Is the box going to be free or at least cheap? Is the content going to be the same as BT and is the price for the content going to be the same as BT? Is Plusnet network going to cope with it? At the moment a few people are complaiing that Plusnet do not have the capacity to cope with normal browsing never mind TV. Myself, now mine is up and running again, I can watch Netflix with no problem at all. What is the contract like, are they going to shove people who wants this back into another 18 month contract? If I went for it, I am not too bad as I have only just started my contract, but some people in the middle or near the end may not want to be shoved into another 18 months. I know someone else on Plusnet, in fact two people now and I know one of them may be interested in the TV part. Myself, already have a FReeview HD PVR if i went back to watching TV and I have a now TV box if I wanted to watch some Sky stuff. But at the moment Netflix is fine for me. But i think Plusnet should not make it so easy to click ont he link. |

I have just switched over from Plusnet to BT. Recently told Sky where to shove their monthly fee but still wanted both BT sport and Eurosport in HD so BT was my only option. I've been waiting ages for Plusnet to launch TV and even when I asked for my Mac code and gave my reasons for leaving they didn't say that the TV was launching soon.
Streaming Netflix and I player on Plusnet of late has been shaky and unreliable. The TV on BT works great plus £230 to switch plus. Free box makes up for the slightly increased monthly cost. |

https://www.plus.net/info2/legal/price_guide.html#tv Stick that. I did not pay nearly £200 for my HD PVR, no way would i pay that much for a You View box just seen this on the Info page about htier TV service YouView+ Box = includes a YouView+ box (you'll just pay £7.99 P&P) with 500GB hard drive and the ability to record, pause and rewind TV. Entertainment channels included as standard. There is a £50 activation charge. YouView Box = includes a YouView box (you'll just pay £5.99 P&P) with the ability to pause (SD up to 30 mins and HD up to 15 mins) and rewind TV but you cannot record on this box. Entertainment channels included as standard. If that is right why do they have it that the box cost £199 on the page you linked to? |

It also quotes prices for the remote and the power cable so I am guessing those are the base costs of the boxes and remote's if bought outright or for out of warranty replacements.
The postage and activation fee are probably all you will pay as a new customer. Can't see them charging over £300 to set it up. |

Ok if they are giving the box away then it is a pretty good deal i suppose, a 200 suqid box for nothing, ok you are stuck with a £5 a month contract, but over 18 months that is still only £90, plus the £50 activation which is £140. I had a look at the entertainment pack, some things might be interesting. Not so sure about the extra £3 for HD, in this day and age HD should be free. I know Netflix charges a £1 for HD, but it is not just for HD, but saying that I still do not think we should be charge for HD, not in this day and age and that includes Netflix. |

I do agree that £50 to activate even if it a one of fee is a little dear. Darren |

BT used to charge £35 and it looks like it is the same box as BT's G4 box. It does just seem like slimmed down version of BT TV . No BT sport though which is a surprise. |

Plusnet TV looks pretty much as I expected it to be, basically a more vanilla version of BT TV. I'm surprised there is no option to add Sky Movies and Sky Sports, but perhaps they will come in time, and I guess those premium bolt-ons don't particularly sit well with Plusnet's low-cost ethos.
Not surprised BT Sport isn't featured, though like with the Sky bolt-ons, it'll probably be available as a premium add-on eventually, especially given Plusnet have acted as an agent to sell BT Sport via the Sky platform. I can't switch provider from BT till January, and unless Plusnet offer a little more than this by then, I reckon I'll stick with BT. Yes, I pay top whack for fibre, but it's a premium, high quality unlimited service, and my accompanying BT TV package is still great value for money, and works out only about £2.45 more than what I'd be paying for the same channels to Plusnet (Entertainment + HD). Plus currently I receive "free" BT Sport ![]() Would be interested to see if Plusnet TV offers the BT Player or something similar under their own brand, given it appears they are offering the Humax G4 box. |

They may offer BT football at some point, but it will nto be free like on BT broadband i doubt.Quote:

The You View boxes I have seen so far have been pretty slow and unreliable. surprised really, because Humax are normally pretty good., but it could be software as Talk Talk boxes are no better. Saying that these boxes i have seen is now a couple of years old, the newer could be better.![]() Would be interested to see if Plusnet TV offers the BT Player or something similar under their own brand, given it appears they are offering the Humax G4 box. Plusnet is not really shouting out loud about the TV service, it seems like they are not interested in selling it and it is just a after thought. |

The great thing about YouView is you can buy the box you want, then your ISP will automatically update your channels etc. I doubt I'll switch to Plusnet as, at the moment, they aren't offering me anything interesting bar a small saving. TalkTalk could be a possibility as they often have some great deals for existing customers, but I'd want to keep my G4 box. The likely scenario is I stick with BT, I may be paying top whack for their fibre, but Ive been delighted with it for almost a year now and am a big fan of their TV service too. |
