Unfortunately,Google Play Store has stopped
Anyone had trouble with the Play Store on their Android tablet?
I have a Sony S tablet and up to about ten days ago everything seemed to be ok, then, although the Play Store's homepage displayed ok when I click on an app to view the details the store gives the above error message and shuts down. I've tried a search obviously and there's loads of hits on this which more or less say the same things. Clear the cache and data from the store's settings Ensure the Download Manager is enabled Remove updates from the store Uninstall the Play Store app. The last item brings up a message to say the store will be replaced by the Factory version which does allow me to view and download an app. But I have to be quick about it because in spite of having the store settings not to update without informing me first just goes ahead and does it anyway and then of course I'm back where I started. Eventually I did the last thing that was mentioned and did a hard reset, which achieved nothing because the store updated to version 5.2.13 which I'm having all the trouble with. There was a Play Store update about 12 days ago which seems a bit suspicious but there have been many instances of this problem occurring – and not just on my rather old tablet but other tablets and phones as well. I had another look this morning in case my tablet had had second thoughts overnight and had decided to cooperate with me - but it hadn't, although I did find that I was able to download a free Brit award track and play it and also read a free book . Neither of which may be relevant but it makes me think there can't be all that much wrong with my tablet. I'm hoping this post will get some helpful ideas on fixing this problem Thanks. |

Have seen quite a lot of people recently on the official google forums having this problem with many devices. Does seem to be hit and miss.
Many have used an apk to install the previous .11 version, or gone back to the device base version under settings > app manager and uninstalling updates, then restrict auto updates. Only do this until an updated version is released, play store is not an app you should really not allow to update, going forward. One trick that I have seen as a temporary cure, is view the play store app in Portrait mode for that version, it works then with no crashes. |

Thanks for both your responses. As I mentioned the update thing didn't work for me because I was unable to stop it updating and reverting back to the latest version. I must admit I was dubious about that bit in bold but I tried it and it actually worked! I'm afraid I'm not clever enough to know why but I'm just pleased that it did. Any idea why it does work lettice? Quote:

Although maybe not the case in this instance, a common cause if this is if the device clock is wrong. In the date/time settings if it is set to automatic, uncheck that and manually set the correct time and date or, if it was unchecked, set it to automatic.

Plenty of users reporting the problem in the support forums, on many differing devices, so expect a fix at some point, but nothing from google officially that I can see. |

Not sure, but the material design has had quite a change in the release, so I guess the search/personalised areas are having display problems..

However, I've just been reading the Google Product forums and apparently the problem has been fixed. It didn't say how but I tried my tablet in landscape mode and it appeared to be working. Cheers. |
