When people really wanted phablets I noticed Apple adverts always made their small phones seem bigger than reality.
Oh - what did they do?

That's the whole point - the pictures don't look right at all! The lines are the same height as the pictures, so its both.

The Yoga is less than 2.5% thinner. The picture of the Yoga is about 25% thinner.

Its not like I'm being picky over an exact measurement - its out by a factor of 10!
Take away the line and the pics look right to me with the yoga been a touch smaller in height and the measurements show 0.3 mm diff. Not that i would imagine many people would be swayed by that without seeing the rest of the machine

Non-apple fans seemed to be shocked about a lot of things if this forum is anything to go by. 😀

Are we looking the same image?

Its not just a touch smaller at all - its about 25% smaller. The actual difference is just 2.5%.

You're surprised that they realised it wasn't meant to depict the actual size of the phone?

You should give them more credit.

So for £1000+ you get a 12" 2K screened Macbook 13mm thin, 9 hours battery and under 1KG without any useful ports.
Whilst for £170 you get the 11.6" 720p screened (same factory made?), EE PC X205, 17mm thin, 12 hour battery, under 1KG and a full array of ports such as HDMI.

The enigmatic question now is , which one is really for the power user ?

If you look at Apple's own pictures, it becomes clear that the 'innards' are really not a lot different to a tablet. The iPad air is quite a beautiful tablet, and there are a range of keyboard options for it.

The MacBook seems to be an upgraded iPad with integrated keyboard, and obviously more battery cells. And of course instead of iOS and it's full-blown OSX - but as we can see, things are gradually moving towards a point where the two will probably merge in some way (perhaps similar in how Microsoft is making Windows the same on computers, tablets and phones).

If you look at it like that, it's suddenly not quite so impressive in terms of technological achievements. The motherboard is tiny, and the screen isn't anything more amazing than available elsewhere (arguably it's less so in terms of pixels, but Apple do use good panels). If this had been an 'iPad pro' then it would have just been seen as the next logical step, and the single port would have perhaps been more acceptable and understandable.

Apple has the money to come up with as many different things as it likes, but it's going to be hard to convince me that you wouldn't be better off with a MacBook Air EVEN IF your usage needs are fairly minimal. And if you need a bit more power, go for the Pro.

I'll hold out for when the MBA line gets Retina and upgrade. I look at my MBA now and don't think it's big or heavy. I'd simply like a bit more battery life and power, which a newer chipset would allow. Oh, and at least two ports (or three given you'll need to charge via one).

I don't know Alan, and I'd hate to try to second guess you.

But I'm pretty sure the Macbook isn't marketed as a computer for power users, so I'm not sure what your point is.

Looks like the watch manufacturing process isn't as smooth as you'd have expected it to be with reportedly only 30% of watches deemed defect free.

I think we are still a long way off that - and no real indication that Apple are intending to move in that direction. OSX has no touchscreen interaction at all, and the way the two OS operate is markedly different. OSX is very much a desktop product completely geared around a physical keyboard and mouse/trackpad, whereas iOS has been all about 99.9% touchscreen from the outset. Let's face it - it has taken Microsoft a long time to get Windows to a position where it is mainstream touch-friendly. The number of interface changes and U-turns over the past few versions (and subversions) of Windows has been crazy compared to how little it had really changed before.

Might be a way off but I do think that's the ultimate direction. I bet we will see MacBooks with touchscreens at some point too. Perhaps also the iMac.

So what if Steve said it wasn't practical etc.

Android has always had mouse functionality built in. The 12 September iPad Pro, meant to stem their falling tablet sales is said to be considering Mouse and USB.

So unless reports got it all wrong this 12" Macbook is much a pointer to the next iPad.
I think they want to give tablet purchasers the IOS experience, so just maybe 'Pro' means 'mouse capability'..

The iPad pro may well be thinner and lighter still. Same number of ports though!
